Reformer Pilates has risen in popularity hugely lately. Have you noticed how Reformer studios and classes just seem to pop up everywhere, now? Not a bad thing when it’s being taught well by properly qualified Pilates teachers who have undergone matwork training first, but this largely isn’t the case.
You could buy a Reformer from Aldi or Amazon and do a course online - and there’s nothing to stop you from teaching on it. The industry isn’t regulated and, in some places, in-house ‘day training’ is being offered to anyone in order to teach a class full of people. I read that one studio’s requirement to teach Reformer Pilates was “to have attended a minimum of six months of Pilates classes” - no training or exams needed! This is so disheartening to see when myself and other wonderful teachers have completed intensive training and undergone exams in order to teach safely.
Fourteen years of teaching under my belt with eight years of teaching on the Reformer… I’m just going to sit tight!
Check out your studio’s credentials, please 😊
