St Michael's Hospice - Hereford

St Michael's Hospice - Hereford St Michael's Hospice is an independent charity that exists to help, support and care for patients

As a charity, we need to raise over £5.8 million a year to ensure we can continue to provide our care and support for free. 74% of this funding comes from our local community through donations and fundraising events. Our multi-disciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, complementary therapists, social workers, chaplains and counsellors. Specialist Hospice staff work together and often in partnership with the NHS to relieve patients’ symptoms, control their pain and help them to live well until the end of life. We provide Inpatient services, hospice daycare and support for patients in a range of settings, including their homes. We are also there to ensure loved ones have access to the appropriate care and support they need to cope with the complex feelings and lifestyle changes caused by a terminal illness. Supporting your Hospice
St Michael’s Hospice provides all its care free of charge to patients, their families and carers. This care is made possible by supporters taking part in fundraising events, playing our lottery, shopping at our retail outlets, making charitable donations and leaving gifts in their wills.

“It was such a lovely tour, and quite incredible to see how much St Michael’s has changed since mum was here,”

Twenty-five years to the day since their mother, Eva ‘Tommy’ Savidge, passed away at St Michael’s, sisters Margaret and June returned for a heartfelt tour of the Hospice.

One of the most moving moments was seeing their mother’s name in our Book of Remembrance, permanently housed in the peaceful Iona Room.

“Visiting today reminded us what a wonderfully calm and peaceful place St Michael’s is,” added Margaret.

Tours are open to anyone and last about an hour. To arrange a visit, contact Jackie Nicholson: jnicholson@smhospicehereford.org

💬 “I don’t worry about death. I just think, ‘I’ve got good people around me’, so it’s a good place to be.”

Over half of our patients have a non-cancer diagnosis, and Sean Hevey’s story of life with Ataxia shows how St Michael’s Hospice supports people through every stage.

🌺 Remembering Those Who Served 🌺

As Remembrance Day approaches, visitors to St Michael’s are greeted by a beautiful display beside our Reception, honouring the sacrifices of so many. Inside our Day Services room, an equally stunning collection of wartime items offers a glimpse into history and the courage of those who came before us.

For the first time, our non-cancer patient numbers now exceed cancer patients.

“Thanks to an ever-expanding breadth of services, we’re able to offer more care and support to more people,” says our CEO, Matt Fellows.

“We’re aware many could benefit from our care but haven’t yet connected with us, we’re keen to reach them.”
