Marches Counselling Service

Marches Counselling Service A charity providing professional, confidential and affordable counselling and psychotherapy service for people in Herefordshire.

We don't have a waiting list and match client to counsellor. We also offer a professional network group for therapists. Marches Counselling Service is a charity that provides affordable, flexible and ethical support to adults in Herefordshire who are struggling with life issues. We provide a safe place to talk: daytimes, evenings and even Saturdays. People can contact us directly to arrange an initial appointment of up to 90minutes, ongoing sessions are agreed at that meeting, if counselling is the right way forward. As Hereford is a small city, we do not offer a drop-in service, but arrange appointments in advance to preserve privacy and anonymity. Our office is staffed Mondays – Fridays between 10am – 1pm. Outside of those hours people can leave a message on our confidential telephone answer machine.

Many of us have lots of events, people or issues from the past that we carry with us day to day and they drag us down. The can affect how we are each day, how we judge or react to people and events happening now. They can also make us worry about the future, what it will hold for us, our loved ones, our health, our finances and a multitude of other concerns we have.

Living in the moment, in the now, being fully engaged in the here and now, focuses on living without distraction from past regrets or future worries. It's difficult to do and takes practice but can help our mental wellbeing enormously.

As a charity we endeavour to provide affordable, professional and confidential counselling. We match client needs to the most appropriate of our 20 counsellors and their therapeutic approaches. We don't have a waiting list or limit the number of sessions you attend. Our contact details are on our website www.marchescounselling.org/contact-us where you will also find an online form to start counselling.

Weekends or if you work weekends, your equivalent, are often seen as a time for relaxation and rejuvenation, but they can also be a time when mental health issues manifest. It's important to recognize the signs of weekend depression and take proactive steps to combat it. Make sure you relax and do things just for you. Do something physical if you can. Practise mindfulness. Try not to fit in too much into your time off work. Most importantly, although it's especially difficult in this day and age, switch off from work.

Still struggling? Need help? We are a charity providing affordable, confidential counselling. We don't have a waiting list or limit the number of sessions you attend. You can contact us on 01432 279906 or admin@marchescounselling.org or via our website www.marchescounselling.org/contact-us where you will find an online form to start counselling with us.

As the weather gets better it helps lift everyone's mood.

Culturally we associate sunshine with happiness and relaxation and the science tells us why.

Our bodies need direct sunlight exposure in order to create vitamin D (aka “the sunshine vitamin”), which plays a major role in regulating mood.

Sunlight also increases production of serotonin which is hormone which plays a role in several key functions, including sleep, digestion, and mood.

In addition, it also affects ability to produce a hormone called melatonin, which helps to control the sleep-wake cycle. Sleep disturbances can contribute to depression.

So take advantage of the sunshine when we have it.

Just a reminder that our next Reflective Practice Group for counsellors and psychotherapists is on Weds 4th March 7-8pm.

The topic for discussion is Anger in the therapy. When anger emerges in a therapy session it is never insignificant. Often it is a communication, whether relating to present or past needs. But what happens when we, as therapists, slip from our reflective stance and act out those angry feelings? What has happened in the therapy relationship, but also in how we see ourselves as ethical professionals. When it is our anger, can we repair the rupture?

For more information or to attend, contact helenmiskin@marchescounselling.org or complete our booking form on

Are their a lot of things in your life that drain you? Do they constantly deplete you of energy, are exhausting but not meaningful, unfulfilling, or no longer enjoyable? If so, it may be time to reassess their role in your life or at least set some boundaries to get a balance for what makes you feel good, what matters to you and what you have to do.

Activities and connections should fuel you, give your energy, nourishment, growth, make you feel good, being a healthy, sustainable part of your life.

Do you need help to explore and even reassess your relationships, friendships, job, events you say yes to but don't want to attend or other activities which affect you negatively? Do you need set better boundaries? Counselling may help.

Carl Rogers, an American psychologist said “a person is a fluid process, not a fixed and static entity; a flowing river of change, not a block of solid material; a continually changing constellation of potentialities, not a fixed quantity of traits.”

In other words, a person is not static, but forever changing, continually growing and developing, influenced by their interactions with others and their experiences. Sometimes we set up barriers, become rigid in our behaviour, interpretations and reactions to others. Counselling can help us step outside of those, relook at ourselves and be more open to experience what is and learn from those who are around us.

We are a charity providing affordable, professional, confidential counselling. We don't have a waiting list or limit the number of sessions you attend. Our contact details are on our website www.marchescounselling.org where there's also a new request for counselling form.
