Marches Counselling Service

Marches Counselling Service A charity providing professional, confidential and affordable counselling and psychotherapy service for people in Herefordshire.

We don't have a waiting list and match client to counsellor. We also offer a professional network group for therapists. Marches Counselling Service is a charity that provides affordable, flexible and ethical support to adults in Herefordshire who are struggling with life issues. We provide a safe place to talk: daytimes, evenings and even Saturdays. People can contact us directly to arrange an initial appointment of up to 90minutes, ongoing sessions are agreed at that meeting, if counselling is the right way forward. As Hereford is a small city, we do not offer a drop-in service, but arrange appointments in advance to preserve privacy and anonymity. Our office is staffed Mondays – Fridays between 10am – 1pm. Outside of those hours people can leave a message on our confidential telephone answer machine.

The next Reflective Practice Group meets on 5th November 7-8 p.m. at our offices in Hereford. The topic is Fasting and Feasting in work.

The group is for counsellors and psychotherapists. It is a supportive space to think about practice issues and experiences in a community of counsellors and psychotherapists.

This session we will be discussing Fasting or Feasting in work. There times when we are really and times when we're looking for work. This group can be an exploration of that, it can be a sharing of our work details for referrals, and if can be a sharing of resources in where to find clients. There are those who suggest that the more we diversify the more stable our income is - what might this mean for you?

The group meets every first Wednesday of the month. 7-8 p.m.

Eating well, can improve your mood and well-being. During October, earthy nutrient rich vegetables such as pumpkins, squash and leeks and various varieties of fruit are prominent offering a great opportunity to expand our diets and explore new recipes.

The relationship between our diet and our mental health is complex but research shows a link between what we eat and how we feel. As many who reach for comfort food to cope with depressing situations ill know. However, if you feel you’re using food as an emotional crutch, a negative coping mechanism to deal with emotional pain or as a way to feel in control, you may have an eating disorder.

Forbes recently ran an article by a psychologist on how to make good habits effortless. Some issues and concerns are we have are around bad habits such as not eating as healthily as we'd like to, continuing to smoke when we want to give it up, scrolling late at night, not maintaining a good work life balance. Often things we put down to will power and mentally beat ourselves up over if we don't change.

The article says points out habits are shaped by the environmental cues around you and the way they’re tied to your identity. Instead of focussing on will power, try to change the habit by breaking it down in to small achievable goals. Change your environment so you are no longer surrounded by the cues that trigger the old habit. Add a new approach/habit onto something else you already do on a regular basis until it too, becomes habit. Try to change your mindset or "identity to that which aligns with your desired goal, every small action becomes a vote for the type of person you want to become. Reading one page, then, makes you a reader. Going for a short run makes you a runner. Recycling one bottle makes you more environmentally conscious. Each action is a way to reinforce the story you tell yourself about who you are."

Weekends or if you work weekends, your equivalent, are often seen as a time for relaxation and rejuvenation, but they can also be a time when mental health issues manifest. It's important to recognize the signs of weekend depression and take proactive steps to combat it. Make sure you relax and do things just for you. Do something physical if you can. Practise mindfulness. Try not to fit in too much into your time off work. Most importantly, although it's especially difficult in this day and age, switch off from work.

Still struggling? Need help? We are a charity providing affordable, confidential counselling. We don't have a waiting list or limit the number of sessions a client attends. You can contact us on 01432 279906 or admin@marchescounselling.org or via our website www.marchescounselling.org

Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty which underscores that ending poverty is about dignity, justice, and belonging, not just income. This year's theme focuses on ending social and institutional maltreatment by ensuring respect and effective support for families, with a clear goal: put the furthest behind first and build institutions that help families stay together, thrive, and shape their own futures.

We appreciate how hard daily struggles can be especially when a low income and how to earn a wage to cover basic outgoings is hugely stressful in itself. Here at MCS we don't want finances to hinder access to counselling so we work hard to obtain funds which enable us to provide affordable counselling whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism. We don't have a waiting list or limit the number of sessions a client attends. You can contact us on 01432 279906 or admin@marchescounselling.org or get in touch via our website www.marchescounselling.org
