HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🥳 | Residents, family members and staff at The Weir were delighted to come together to celebrate the 100th birthday of Marjorie “Nora” Olver marking an extraordinary milestone in a life rich with history and family love.

Born in Burma, Nora lived through two World Wars before moving to England with her sisters, Katherine and Eileen when she was 4.

She later attended school in Sussex, building a life shaped by hard work.

During her working life, Nora served as a Land Army girl, earning a medal for her contribution, and later charity worked for Cheshire Homes, reflecting her dedication and caring nature. She has always enjoyed cooking and baking, with cakes remaining a particular favourite.

Family has always been central to Nora’s life.

She was married to John Desmond Olver, originally from Cornwall, and together they raised two children.

Today, Nora is a proud grandmother to six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Family members attending her celebration included her eldest son Paul, along with Carol, Susan, and son-in-law Peter Chadwick, who described her as a “wonderful mother-in-law.”

Nora’s 100th birthday was celebrated with a warm and joyful gathering, complete with balloons, banners and a birthday cake, enjoyed alongside her family, staff and fellow residents. Laughter and smiles filled the room as everyone came together to mark the special day.

The celebration was made even more meaningful by the arrival of a 100th birthday card from The King.

The thoughtful Royal message delighted Nora and was proudly shared with those around her, adding a heartfelt and unforgettable moment to a truly special day.

Reflecting on her long life, Nora shared that the secret to reaching 100 is caring for family.

Her advice to younger generations is to
"Look after yourself and your family and spend time with your grandchildren”.

While she shared feeling sad about affairs in the world, her happiest memories remain those of her marriage and children.

A family member spoke fondly of Nora, describing her as a keen gardener in earlier years, very quiet, an excellent cook and someone who is always immaculately dressed. They all said how wonderful it was to see her turn 100.

Everyone at The Weir feels privileged to celebrate such an incredible milestone and wishes Nora a very happy 100th birthday!
