👉Everyone aged 60 or over is automatically exempt from prescription charges.
That means once you turn 60, you can get NHS prescriptions for free — you don’t need a prepayment certificate (PPC) or to pay the standard per-item charge.
Because you’re exempt by age, a PPC (or the special HRT-only PPC) typically isn’t necessary for someone over 60 — unless perhaps you want to cover someone under 60 on the same prescription or for some other reason.

Hi everyone, during the last two years there has been a lot of development at the practice. In April 2018 St Anne’s Surgery and Beltinge & Reculver Surgery merged with William Street and Hersden Surgery to become the Heron Medical Practice.
The Practice has changed beyond recognition across the clinical teams and non-clinical teams. We have employed lots of different allied health professionals including advanced nurse practitioners who can prescribe and refer like a GP, we have paramedics who can visit you at home, we have pharmacists who can ensure that you are on the most effective medication regimes for you.
We have developed a brand new nursing team who each have their own specialities as well as all of them doing the general nursing duties; these specialities include Diabetes care, respiratory care, mental health and dementia care, warfarin management and women’s health with lots more service in development.
We have a clinical team that meets weekly to discuss patients that require a bit more specialist care than normal with a multidisciplinary team of GPs, Nurses, Social Care and Voluntary Services.
We run a rapid home visiting scheme whereby we ensure that all requests that have been triaged as urgent are seen within 2 hours of the call coming in.
We have a team of clinicians who prepare anticipatory care plans for patients who are in care homes to avoid inappropriate hospital admissions.
At our surgeries you can see a counsellor, a physiotherapist, you can have acupuncture or cryotherapy.
Our receptionists are developing their skills to enable them to signpost patients to the most appropriate clinician.
Our non-clinical teams are redesigning our admin processes to make them more efficient by taking the best of both worlds and experiences to develop the best way to do a task and at the same time we are developing them to become the leaders of the future, we have 1 staff member currently doing the level 7 Practice Managers course and others doing leadership training.
It is our vision to develop our practice by working together with you and our staff to be the best we can be for our patients and for our very hardworking team.
