The original hospital was built in the early 1800s and in 2003 work began on the development of a brand new hospital on the same site. The new £8.5 million facility opened its doors to patients in November 2004. The hospital provides a wide range of outpatients, ante/post natal, diagnostic and therapeutic services to the people of south-east Hertfordshire. It is open Monday to Friday, except on bank holidays, between 8.00am and 6.00pm.

Today is World Diabetes Day 🌍

This year’s theme is Diabetes in the Workplace, shining a light on the importance of understanding and supporting people living with diabetes in every part of life, including at work.

On behalf of our Children’s Diabetes Team, we also want to share Lyla’s story, recently featured in the national press. Her tragic passing is a powerful reminder of the urgent need for greater awareness and understanding of Type 1 diabetes.

Today at Hertford County Hospital, staff, patients, and visitors gathered for a two‑minute silence at 11:00am, marked by the ringing of our historic bell.

This bell has been part of our hospital’s story since 1822, when the Hertford General Dispensary was founded to care for the poor.

It has witnessed the evolution of healthcare in Hertford, from the General Infirmary in 1833, to Hertford County Hospital in 1908, and into the NHS in 1948.

Adrian has rung this bell every year for 37 years, continuing a tradition that reminds us of the sacrifices made and the importance of remembrance. 🌹

Today, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and memory of all those who gave their lives in service.

From the battlefields of the World Wars to more recent conflicts, their legacy lives on in our hearts💙

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. 🌹

Let’s stay safe this Bonfire Night 🔥

Please remember, while fun for many, fireworks can cause serious injuries 🎆

The safest place to enjoy fireworks is at a professionally-organised public display.

If you choose to buy your own, please remember the firework code including:
🚭 Keeping naked flames, including ci******es, away from fireworks
🧯Never use paraffin or petrol on a bonfire
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Fireworks should only be handled by adults
👀Children should be supervised and watch from a safe distance
🔥 Never return to a firework once it has been lit
