Thank you to all my wonderful families that trusted me with their birth and baby prep. You are all so special to me.

Time to spend my weekends focussing on family time.

✨️A is for Afterpains✨️

Everybody experiences these differently. For some people they are really mild, for others they find they have to stop and breathe through them like they did during labour.

They get more intense with each pregnancy and birth so if you are expecting for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th+ time, make sure you plan ahead to have comfort measures (and pain relief) to hand.

Remember, they only last a few days. And they only last for less than a minute at a time. And they aren't too frequent. You got this!

These are the most recent stats from Lister Hospital.
The stats are very vague and dont give us much info.

What we can see is that:
- unassisted vaginal births are consistently sitting at under 50%
- caesarean births are consistently sitting between 40 and 50%
- assisted births are consistently sitting at around 10-12%

The vast majority of births happen in the CLU, but we dont know how many chose that as their place of birth vs who got transferred there.

We also don't know how many of these abdominal births were elective / planned vs how many were unplanned.

On some months there were at least 10 homebirths, which while still a low number, shows that our community midwives are actively attending homebirths which is more than can be said for lots of trusts. This number also won't include those that transferred in during labour.

All this information can be found on the Lister Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership instagram and page.
Its worth giving them a follow for updates around processes at Lister, any changes that are coming and to get a feel for the trust. They also have an email address you can contact if you need their help.

Follow along for more info!

✨️ B is for Big Babies ✨️

Have you been told your baby is measuring big?
Have you been told you will need to be induced?
Have you been given the latest evidence?
Have you been told the risks of induction vs the risks of waiting?

There's always options, there's always questions you can ask and research you can do to make sure your care is personalised.

For more information on the study, Dr Sara Wickham has done a great blog post - simply Google Dr Sara Wickham Big Baby Trial.

She also covers inductions and Big Babies in her book In Your Own Time.

🧠 Don't forget to use your BRAIN when making any decision.
