When looking for a CBT therapist, please be aware that accredited CBT therapists, have to be accredited by the BABCP, which is the governing body for CBT.

I’m sorry to say that there are many therapists, that are not specifically trained in CBT, offering CBT therapy, and although they may be experienced therapists in their area, they are not actually CBT therapists.

As a CBT therapist, who has worked hard to complete my full CBT training and accreditation, this is frustrating, however it’s more concerning that clients looking for CBT therapy, may not be getting a fully trained and accredited CBT therapist, just someone who might have completed a brief training course, or studied CBT online.

Always look for BABCP accreditation, and if in doubt, ask. Finding the right therapist is difficult, and can be a bit of a minefield. Make sure you get the therapy you need, and not an inferior version of it.

What Is EMDR?

After a traumatic experience, or period of time, the mind can often heal itself naturally, in the same way as the body does. Much of this natural coping mechanism occurs during sleep, particularly during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.

Francine Shapiro developed Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 1987, utilising this natural process in order to successfully treat Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Since then, EMDR has been used to effectively treat a wide range traumas and mental health problems.

What can EMDR be used for?

In addition to its use for the treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, EMDR has been successfully used to treat:

Anxiety and panic attacks
Attachment difficulties
Depression
Stress
Phobias
Sleep problems
Complex grief
Addictions
Pain relief, phantom limb pain
Self-esteem and performance anxiety

If you have any further questions about EMDR, or want to make an enquiry, just drop me a line or give me a call.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence based psychological treatment.

It is a specific psychotherapeutic model, which helps us to address our emotional difficulties, and improve the way we think and feel, and in turn improve our relationship with ourselves and others. CBT focuses on the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are troublesome or unhelpful, as these often undermine our self confidence and can trigger depression or anxiety. CBT looks at how problems are developed are maintained in the “here and now”. It can help you to learn new methods of coping and problem solving which can be used for the rest of your life. It can be seen as an investment in your future happiness and stability, and can help to maintain more stable relationships.
