Bentham Bonfire

Bentham Bonfire High Bentham is a small town on the edge of the Dales in North Yorkshire. We hold a community bonfire and firework show at the end of October each year.

Bentham Bonfire and Firework show - Annual Event
25th OCTOBER 2025 - 5pm Gates open - 6pm Drum procession & Bonfire lighting - 7.30pm (approx) Fireworks (but may vary subject to bonfire smoke & weather conditions) FAQs:

Why is the bonfire not on bonfire night? Bentham bonfire has always been the week before traditional bonfire night. This means it doesn't clash with other displays in the surrounding area so they can all come to us and we can visit theirs. It also means we can book a fantastic professional company for the display because they're not already booked up at larger locations. It also coincides with school half term, so is a great attraction for families visiting the area. What time does the firework display start? The event will begin with the lighting of the bonfire at 6pm and the fireworks will follow at a suitable time once everyone has enjoyed the fire, the food and the activities and the bonfire has burned down enough. We're encouraging people to come and experience the evening as a community event so the lighting of the fire will be the starting 'event'.

I'm going to let you into a secret... There is a little group without whom it wouldn't happen at all... ADRIAN, IAN, SARAH and CHRIS. The Bonfire Committee.

They start planning months before; book the site, suppliers, vendors and entertainment; organise the insurance; apply for grants; design the posters; build the website and online booking; go round the area putting up posters and banners and delivering wristbands; drive around collecting wood; build the bonfire; organise lighting, electrics and PA equipment; organise skips; supervise the volunteers; help the vendors; some stay up all night to watch the bonfire while it burns down, then the others get up early on Sunday and take over, spending Sunday clearing the site with meticulous detail, walking up and down with magnetic rollers so nothing harmful is left behind; then they count the money ready to do it all again next year.

So from all of Bentham - THANK YOU to our bonfire heroes! (I'll leave you to decide who is who on the picture 😉)

Here's a reminder of the critical times for tomorrow.
* HOWEVER... PLEASE NOTE... the fireworks time may change (it could be later if the bonfire is burning slowly, or it could be earlier if the weather is bad).
It took two hours of constant queues to get everyone through the gates last year, so if you don't have a physical or sensory need to delay entering the site PLEASE don't leave it to the last minute or (1) you might miss it 🤦‍♀️and (2) you'll make things harder for those who have a genuine need to come late 💜
