If you have had a tummy tuck and muscle repair (diastasis recti repair) and you have noticed sensations similar to Braxton Hicks contractions, you are not imagining it and it’s totally normal.
During pregnancy, the abdominal muscles and connective tissue (linea alba) stretch to make space for baby.
After your surgery, those same muscles are brought back together and tightened - and your core is relearning how to coordinate with your diaphragm and pelvic floor. That “tightening” is just your muscles adjusting, not actual contractions.
This can lead to:
✅ Muscle spasms
✅ Reflex tightening of the abdominal wall
✅ A sensation that feels like “Braxton Hicks” you may remember from pregnancy
Is it normal?
Yes and as long as there is NO -
🚩 Severe or increasing pain
🚩 Sudden swelling or heat
🚩 Fever or redness at the incision
Gentle lymphatic drainage, deep diaphragmatic breathing, slow re-introduction of movement all support your core.
Go slow, breathe deep and trust the healing process. 💛
