Cambridge Hydrotherapy Centre run and managed by Aimee Plumb. Aimee is fully qualified in Level 3 Canine Hydrotherapy and she is registered with NARCH (National Association of Registered Canine Hydrotherapists). Aimee is very passionate about the health and well being of all breeds of dog and realises how important Hydrotherapy can be for pain relief and rehabilitation for dogs with certain conditions, injuries as well as general fitness. Our pool is 5 metres by 3 metres by 1.2 meters deep that allows all breeds of dog from the smallest up to the larger breeds to have a comfortable swim in a safe environment. All dogs are individually assessed and provided with a personalised program created to suit their needs and abilities. Aimee will always enter the pool with our patients/clients enabling us to offer comfort and reassurance, whilst being able to feel the affected areas to maximise their rehabilitation and fitness. We have excellent relationships with all our local vets and strive to work closely with the vets for patients referred to us. We are professional and serious about what we do to ensure the full well being of all dogs that come through our pool. We are situated 5 miles south of Cambridge and are easily accessible as we are very close to the M11, A11 and A14.

We recently said goodbye to this gorgeous girl. Kizzy was such an amazing little dog and she did not look her age at all!

Kizzy went through two cruciate ligament injuries but still managed to run around like a loony.

I am sending so much love to her owner. Enjoy the rainbow bridge wonderful girl 🌈

🌊🐾 Then & Now — 10 Years of Hydrotherapy with Marley! 🐾🌊

Meet Marley, our incredible long-term swimmer who’s been coming for hydrotherapy for over 10 years! 💪💧
The first photo is from 2015, and the second was taken just the other day — same sweet face, same determination.

Marley was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at a very young age, but that’s never stopped her. Thanks to her regular hydro sessions (and lots of love from her humans ❤️), she’s stayed strong, mobile, and happy all these years.

She’s only just starting to slow down a little — though mentally, she’s still very much a puppy! 🐶✨

Here’s to Marley — the true definition of strength, spirit, and wagging tails! 💦💛

🏃‍♂️ Height and spacing in cavaletti work MATTER.

They’re not just cosmetic details - they fundamentally change how your patient moves and what the exercise achieves.

📊 In this example, the cavaletti are set to their maximum height for this dog - roughly the height of the hocks. That setup demands full active flexion of both forelimbs and hindlimbs, and significantly increases ground reaction forces during trot on the weight-bearing limbs.

That’s a powerful therapeutic tool… but also a big ask.

Here’s what to look for 👇

🔎 Pelvis + spine alignment: Are they staying stable with relatively straight trunk alignment? Or is your patient compensating with excessive trunk sway, pelvic flexion, or spinal rotation and kyphosis to clear the bars?

If core stability can’t be maintained, the exercise is too advanced for their current stage. Adjust height, spacing, or gait speed to meet their ability and clinical goal.

💡 Remember: progression isn’t just about “making it harder.” It’s about dosing movement to build strength, control, and quality without sacrificing form.

Can you assess your patient’s biomechanics during cavaletti work - and adapt the exercise based on what you see?

For an excellent demonstration of how small changes in cavaletti setup influence form, check out Anna Lee Sanders’ blog and video with her dog, Hot Rod, on the Canine Conditioning Coach website.

📆 And don’t miss Anna Lee LIVE at the Vet Rehab Summit on 8 November, where she’ll dive deep into Recognizing Correct Biomechanics in Therapeutic Exercise - and how these subtle details can make or break your rehab outcomes.

🐾 A Little Reminder About Claw Care 🐾

I’ve noticed quite a few dogs coming into the centre lately with long claws — and it’s something that’s really important to keep an eye on!

When a dog’s claws get too long, it can actually change the way they walk. This puts extra pressure on their toes, joints, and tendons, which can lead to discomfort or even long-term posture and mobility issues. You might notice your dog’s paws splaying, clicking sounds on hard floors, or even a bit of limping.

Keeping claws trimmed to a healthy length helps your dog move naturally and comfortably. Regular walks on different surfaces can help, but most dogs still need routine trimming — especially those that spend more time on soft ground or grass.

If you’re unsure how short they should be or how to trim safely, your vet or groomer can help (and most are happy to show you how to do it confidently at home!).

Healthy paws = happy walks 🐶❤️
