Shanti Spirit Yoga

Shanti Spirit Yoga Join Shanti Spirit yoga classes in Burbage, Hinckley and online for a gentle, practical way to be ca There's no pressure to do anything at all.

Calming, relaxing yoga classes and workshops in Burbage and Hinckley in Leicestershire and online. Learn how to practice yoga in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We take everything step-by-step so you can decide how much, or how little, you want to do at each stage. You're welcome to rest or relax (or sometimes people sleep!) whenever you need to, without judgement. You don't need special clothes, just something that feels comfortable and gives you freedom to move. We practice in bare feet or socks and you can borrow a mat, a pillow and a block to use in class. It's good to bring an extra layer like a sweatshirt or fleece, and I have some blankets to keep you cosy in the lying down sections of the class. Shanti simply means 'peace'. This is a calm and restful space in a frantic, technology-driven world. Read Our Story to learn more about my unique approach to yoga...

It feels like we're being relentlessly pushed into the future. Or is it just me? Christmas preparations started in September. Black Friday lasts a whole month. Adverts for holidays next summer started in October. And by January we'll be looking at Easter eggs. For me, mindfulness and yoga are the antidote.

This week set aside three minutes each day to bring yourself to your senses.
🦶Feel your feet on the floor.
👂Tune into the sounds you hear.
👃Smell the air around you.
😋Savour whatever you taste.
👀Soften your eyes and gaze gently at your surroundings.
🫁Feel your breath moving your body.

New research: Nature and music work in harmony to ease stress and lift mood
I love it! ❤️🌲🌱🌻🙏
Science shows that engaging with nature and music can significantly boost emotional and physical well-being. A new review found that combining these experiences—such as listening to music outdoors, gardening while singing, or caring for animals—can improve mood, reduce stress, and ease symptoms of anxiety and depression.

The viral phrase “touch grass” may be more than internet humor—science shows that engaging with nature and music can significantly boost emotional and physical well-being.

This week's class is centred around the flowing quality of your yoga practice. Your body is about 60% water and just like a stream you to need to move and flow so you don't stagnate. Movement helps to power your lymph - your body's inner cleansing system. As Bruce Lee said 'Be water, my friend'. See you on the mat! Jayne 🙏

Todays yoga practice: Walking! Mindful rhythmic walking induces a sense of calm. Here's why you should grab your woolly hat and scarf and take a stroll.

The consistent, repetitive motion of walking sends a message to your brain - 'you are safe'. These steady, predictable patterns resonate with the natural rhythms of the body, helping the nervous system begin to relax. Walking stimulates your vagus nerve, which is connected to the relaxation side of your nervous system. Walking is a kind of bilateral stimulation through alternating, rhythmic movements of the left and right sides of the body which helps calm the nervous system, regulate emotions, and improve cognitive function. Humming your way to health. Brahmari is a simple, but powerfully relaxing yoga breathing technique. Lengthening your exhale calms your nervous system. Humming stimulates your vagus nerve - which is intimately linked to your relaxation response. Breathe in through your nose and softly hum away your exhale. Keep your face soft and relaxed. After a few breaths, come back to you natural breathing and listen. It's a useful practice to let go at the end of the day. 🙏

Nourish your spine with movement vitamins. Modern life doesn't give us all the variety that we need, so, add these to your movement 'diet' every day:
* Side bend
*Twist
*Back bend
* Forward bend
Shake it up! Choose a different base each day - lying down, sitting, standing, all fours, kneeling. Let me know how you get on 🙏
Join me at Shanti Spirit Yoga if you're curious how to add movement vitamins to your daily life https://bookwhen.com/shantispirit

This week's yoga class fits the autumn vibe - it's all about letting go of stuff - physically (when did you last 'go'?!), mentally and emotionally. Let's move on and make space for renewal. 🍂🍁🙏

After a very grumpy day of online meetings, an article landed today from Katy Bowman (look her up - she's awesome). She explained that your body gives you signals when it needs to move. You've heard of being 'hangry'? Well, this is about being movement hungry. And yes, it makes you cranky and over emotional too. So, for the good of everyone I work with, I'll be scheduling movement breaks in between meetings. Let me know if you experience this too! 🚶👣🙏
