✨ Happy New Year ✨

A little over due but I would like to say a huge thank you to all my lovely patients who have trusted me to treat them throughout 2022. I absolutely love my job and will always do my best for you! To friends, family, colleagues and anyone who has recommended me over the past year or even liked or commented on a post (when I actually manage to put anything up 🙈), it really means a lot!

I hope you all have a happy and healthy start to 2023! I’ll be back in clinic this Thursday 5th Jan but will be ‘in office’ doing admin etc until then so I will be available for any enquiries; please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’ve been thinking about coming for acupuncture and have any questions you would like to run by me before hand ☺️

30,000 excess deaths from heart conditions since the beginning of covid, according to a British Heart Foundation report. It proposed that the great majority of them were due to difficulty in accessing care. Is this yet another indication that the measures taken to tackle Covid were more damaging than the virus itself or, in other words, was the cure more dangerous than the disease?

To HRT or to not HRT? The great menopause debate is raging. Dr Ilan Shahor has decided to weigh in and have a deeper look at the subject, both from a modern science and a traditional medicine perspective. He set out on a search to find the answer which will be presented in his new blog post, coming out soon. Does acupuncture hurt?

This is one of the most common questions I get asked, and with good reason.
In short, my answer is no; acupuncture should not hurt and there should not be any pain associated with it. This doesn’t mean to say you won’t feel anything as there will more than likely be points you are more aware of but this sensation should not be painful .

Additionally there may also be a dullness or tingling around points and this is perfectly normal; we call this ‘De Qi’, essentially meaning the point is nice and activated.

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine; the ones I use are around 0.2mm in diameter and are often referred to as being ‘hair like’.
The needles I use much more environmentally friendly than standard needles; the packaging and guide tube the needle comes in are plastic free and 100% recyclable and biodegradable. Of course all needles are single use and sterile.

Primary Chronic Pain:

Chronic primary pain is described as having no clear underlying condition or the pain (or its impact) appears to be out of proportion to any injury or condition.

Last year NICE (National institute for clinical excellence) put acupuncture on its recommendation list for treatment of chronic primary pain alongside exercise programmes and CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). Additionally medications such as paracetamol, ibuprofen and opioids are no longer recommended and branded unsuitable however some antidepressants may be considered for some with chronic primary pain.
