🌞In spring and summer, short bursts of midday sun on bare skin (face/arms/hands) can help your body make vitamin D. In the UK autumn and winter, sunlight is often too weak for reliable vitamin D production, plus we’re all bundled up! ⛷️ Typically you need about two hours of light exposure in the darker months, as opposed to just 15 minutes in the warmer months! 🌤️

Struggling to get up and out now the mornings are darker and the air is colder? You’re in good company.
Sometimes it’s just the seasonal shift and your body hasn’t quite adapted yet. For others, it can be something a little deeper, like Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Common signs include:
• Low or irritable mood
• Losing interest or pleasure in everyday activities
• Lethargy and “can’t-get-going” days
• Craving carbs
• Sleeping longer and still feeling groggy

Less daylight can also mean lower vitamin D levels, which may contribute to that “winter slump.” Seasonal doesn’t mean inevitable, and you don’t have to put up with it.

What can help, starting today:
• Get outside when you can. Even a gentle 10–20 minute walk helps.
• Consider light exposure. Daylight lamps can be useful if you struggle to get out in daylight hours.
