Today is National Hug Day, a day to celebrate and appreciate the small acts (like a simple hug) that can bring comfort, show caring, and help to build trust. It’s a day to remember that the smallest acts of connection can make a big difference in someone’s life. 🤗💖

At Beritaz Care, we know the importance of comfort, compassion, and connections; it’s all part of the person-centred care provided in our homes. Whether it takes the form of hugs, a handshake, friendly chats, or simply being present, our staff are always happy to provide whatever support our residents need to bring a smile to their faces. Not to mention the four-legged visitors to our homes, who may be our residents’ favourite companions of all. 🐶🐾

We have lots of activities available for the residents of Springkell House, that not only provide a fun way to spend some time but are also beneficial for various cognitive skills. These kinds of games, that our residents particularly enjoy, are a great form of cognitive exercise, as well as providing a fun way to practice coordination and motor skills.

Recently, our residents have been enjoying playing board games and indoor ball games as a fun indoor pastime that they can enjoy by themselves, or while having a chat on a rainy afternoon. There are a variety of activities on offer for residents in addition to our organised group activities, and we are always happy to support our residents to keep up with their favourite hobbies.

There’s no reason why exercising your brain can’t be fun, or why playing games shouldn’t also offer wellbeing benefits. At Springkell House, we pride ourselves on combining both, and our residents are big fans!

Our residents heard that today is Blue Monday… so we decided to share some smiles and joy to cheer you up on this dreary January day 🔵 🌧️

After all the fun and festivities of the Christmas season, January can feel like a bit of a let-down. That’s why, at Beritaz Care, we do everything we can to keep the cheer going throughout January, while also making sure our residents have some well-needed relaxation time to recover from a busy Christmas season.

This month, within our homes, we have arranged some fun and engaging activities to make sure our residents aren’t fighting the blues any day in January. We are enjoying music, art, reading, games, and other fun pastimes that encourage wellbeing and provide a great opportunity to be social. While the weather is cold and wet, we are making sure our residents keep moving with indoor exercise and active games, while also enjoying delicious and nutritious meals made by the chefs in our homes.

We are doing everything we can to make January full of fun, smiles, and joyful times. What are you doing to make your January a bit brighter? We hope seeing our residents’ smiling faces helps to brighten up this Blue Monday for you.

2025 was a busy year for us at Springkell House. One of the proudest moments for the team was receiving an overall rating of ‘Good’ in our CQC inspection.

Shortly after our wonderful Home Manager, Jogi, took on the role, we were visited by CQC inspectors, who assessed the home based on key criteria including ‘safe’, ‘caring’, ‘effective’, and ‘well-led’. In the report that followed, the inspectors included some lovely comments about the home and staff, and in particular, about the leadership of our Home Manager.

🌟 “A registered manager was in post who had worked at the service in a number of different roles. They demonstrated commitment to developing a positive, person-centred culture which respected people’s diverse needs.” 🌟

🌟 “Staff told us they felt respected and valued as part of the Springkell House team. One staff member told us, “I think the manager is very thoughtful and makes us all feel very welcome and part of this place. It is like a family here; I love coming to work.” 🌟

🌟 “One relative stated, “I really do [think the service is managed well] because I feel that since [registered manager] has taken over [they are] really trying to install some really good changes. [They are] trying passionately to make a good go of it.” 🌟

🌟 “The registered manager told us they had clear expectations that the service was highly personalised and provided people with choice, dignity and respect…We observed the principles and values the registered manager described were embedded into the way people were supported.” 🌟

🌟 “People and their relatives told us they knew the registered manager and felt they had the skills and presence needed to manage the service well.” 🌟

🌟 “One person told us, “I think the manager here is a very nice [person] and [they] always ask if I have everything I need.” 🌟

🌟 “We observed the registered manager had a positive presence within the service and knew people, their needs and their families well. They spent time with people during the day and from the conversations heard, it was clear this was a regular occurrence.” 🌟

🌟 “they had implemented systems to monitor the care people received more closely, increase staff skills and ensure meaningful involvement from people and their relatives in developing care plans, activities and the development of the service.” 🌟

Engaging with our local communities was a big focus for Beritaz Care during 2025. 🤝🏘️
Throughout this past year, our homes and residents had the chance to grow closer to the places and people around them. We connected generations by arranging visits with local schools and welcoming student volunteers, and were even joined by RAF Cadets for Remembrance Day services.

Residents loved exploring the local area with minibus outings to pubs, garden centres, and the seaside, while our homes’ summer parties opened our doors to neighbours and friends. Our staff also took the time to give back during the year, raising funds for worthy causes and giving their time to support community events.

In 2025, we continued to receive fantastic support from church groups, volunteers, and other local organisations. We are so grateful to all of you and appreciate the kindness you have shown to our residents.

Our 2025 activities schedule was full of fun, favourite hobbies, and the chance to form new friendships. 📖 🎨🚐 The activities teams in our homes have worked incredibly hard over the past year to arrange a busy calendar of activities and events to appeal to everyone. From resident-led clubs and one-on-one sessions, to parties, themed activities, day trips in our new minibus, and special celebrations (including a few 100th birthdays). 🎂

Residents played a bigger role than ever in planning events, with feedback from home meetings helping us to shape monthly calendars and prioritise our residents’ favourite things. Wellbeing was a big focus within Beritaz Care in 2025, with fun armchair exercises, interactive games, and lots of opportunities to get active and socialise. 🎳🏓

2025 was certainly a year to celebrate at Beritaz Care. Our team’s dedication was recognised across the board, with praise in independent inspections, including multiple CQC “Good” ratings, and some wonderful reviews from residents and their families. We were honoured to be finalists at the Surrey Care Awards and receive a Gold Investors in People accreditation. 🏆

These achievements reflect the hard work, compassion, and innovation of our staff, and most importantly, the trust of the people we care for. Read the full round-up of our awards and accreditations in 2025, and join us in thanking our brilliant teams who have made it all possible. ⭐️
