We recently welcomed the wonderful Ava to the home to support our residents in a reminiscence session. Ava uses various sensory tools, including music, images, and scents, to evoke memories from our residents’ lives. 🎶💭

The residents really enjoy the opportunity to explore these memories, sharing stories and experiences with each other, and often revisiting precious memories they may not have thought of in a while.

Memories are such an important and powerful thing, particularly for our residents. Reminiscence activities help residents to revisit memories that are special to them. At Springkell House, we incorporate a variety of activities into our schedule that are aimed at encouraging memory skills and reminiscence.

At Beritaz Care, we understand that nothing benefits the mind and body quite like a good night’s sleep. 🛌😴 Quality sleep plays an important part in the health and wellness of the residents within our homes.

Today is World Sleep Day, an event aimed at raising awareness of the importance of sleep health. The theme of World Sleep Day 2026 is ‘Sleep well, live better’, encouraging everyone to take steps to prioritise their sleep routine to benefit their overall health.

On World Sleep Day, we are sharing how we prioritise sleep health as part of our care service, and why good sleep matters for our residents. Sleep health is a key factor in the holistic approach to care we take within our homes. Residents’ sleep quality, preferences, and any negative sleep factors are all included in the personalised care plans developed for each individual. The staff within our homes do everything they can to support sleep health, from helping residents to establish good sleep routines that work for them to making sure the home environment is conducive to a good night’s sleep.

Today is International Women’s Day and we are celebrating all the incredible women who are part of the Beritaz Care community. 👩🏻👩🏽👵🏼👩🏼

From our management team to the care and support staff working in our home, the brilliant entertainers and community members that support us, and, of course, the wonderful women that we have the privilege of caring for. We are honoured to be surrounded by these women who bring so much wisdom, kindness and strength into the home, and inspire us every single day.

As an employer and care provider, we aim to create a welcoming and safe environment for all. Inclusion and equality are values we are passionate about; we celebrate our differences and embrace the opportunity to learn from each other.

We will be taking time today to celebrate the brilliant women in our lives and to consider how we can play a part in advancing women’s equality worldwide.

We had a lovely Valentine’s Day celebration at Springkell House, filled with music, laughter, and love. ❤️ 🥰

Residents came together to share a glass of wine and enjoy some delicious cakes made by our brilliant kitchen team, and everyone received a small gift in celebration of Valentine’s Day. We enjoyed some fabulous musical entertainment as residents enjoyed their Valentine’s themed treats.

We wanted to make sure this was a joyful day for our residents. A day to celebrate love in all its forms and to honour the people they have loved throughout their lives, while being surrounded by the friends they have made at Springkell House.

Throughout Dignity Action Month, our residents and teams have been exploring what dignity looks like within our homes. 💛

At Beritaz Care, dignity is a value at the heart of our person-centred approach to care. From the training our staff receive, to the active role we encourage our residents to take in our home communities, we are committed to ensuring everyone feels respected, valued, and heard.

Dignity Action Month aims to ensure people who use care services or who receive support are treated as individuals and are given choice, control, and a sense of purpose in their daily lives, which is something we are passionate about at Beritaz Care.

Find out how we champion dignity every day within our homes and how we have been celebrating Dignity Action Month, in our latest blog: https://beritazcare.co.uk/news/article/dignity-in-care

Last week, our residents took part in an activity to celebrate Dignity Day. Our activities coordinator put on this lovely afternoon tea spread and invited residents to come together for a cup of tea and some delicious treats, while we discussed the topic of dignity. 🫖🍰

Our kitchen team whipped up this fantastic selection of sweet treats, including some fabulous cakes and croissants for residents to enjoy. While tucking into the delicious refreshments, we asked the residents to consider ‘what is dignity’ and how they feel their dignity can be respected. 🤔 They also took part in a Dignity Day-themed crafting activity.

Upholding dignity is such an important topic, particularly within the care industry. While we are always doing our utmost to uphold the principles of dignity, respect, and compassion, through our person-centred approach to care, it is so important to speak to our residents themselves about what dignity means to them.

Dignity Day takes place every February during Dignity Action Month, and is a campaign aimed at raising awareness and ensuring vulnerable individuals receive person-centred care while being given choice, control, and a sense of purpose.

Springkell House resident, Susana, has enjoyed taking part in the ‘adopt a grandparent’ activity.

Susana has now enjoyed several video calls with a young volunteer, where they have had a lovely time chatting about all sorts of things and sharing stories about their lives. In this call, they had a lot of fun talking about pets they have had during their lives, before discovering a shared passion for dancing, which they had lots to talk about.

As you can see from this photo, Susana really enjoyed talking to the young volunteer and had a big smile on her face throughout the call. 😁

This activity offers so many benefits for our residents, as well as for the young people who have lost their own grandparents. We are looking forward to continuing this activity and getting to see our residents enjoy connecting with different generations.

We recently hosted a cheese and wine social event for the residents at Springkell House. 🍷🧀

We like to arrange themed events that encourage our residents to come together and socialise while taking part in an activity they can enjoy together.

Our residents were excited to sample some nice wine and cheese while having a good chat with their fellow residents over the delicious refreshments. Our kitchen team made some lovely canapés for the residents to enjoy alongside their wine.

Everyone had a lot of fun and appreciated the opportunity to socialise in a different way. We are looking forward to hosting more social events for the residents, with activities that will appeal to different interests.

Several of our residents are taking part in an exciting new activity, giving them the chance to connect with different generations and hopefully enjoy making some new friends. 💕

The ‘adopt a grandparent’ initiative brings together volunteers from all over the world with the elderly community to build new relationships and create meaningful bonds. The volunteers that our residents will get to meet and chat to are people who have lost their own grandparents and are enthusiastic to experience that kind of intergenerational bond.

We think this will be a really valuable experience for some of our residents, particularly those who don’t have many family members or those who are simply happy to make a new friend. It is also lovely to know our residents can provide companionship for young people who are missing that familial bond from a grandparent. 💕 👵🏻

One of our residents, Susana, recently had her first video call with a young volunteer and had a great time getting to know them and having a chat. They seemed to hit it off right away, and we hope this is something we can continue with other residents. 💻 💬

We are embarking on this journey with the support of Adopt a Grandparent, a charitable organisation that is committed to reducing the feelings of loneliness and isolation on a global scale.

Today is National Hug Day, a day to celebrate and appreciate the small acts (like a simple hug) that can bring comfort, show caring, and help to build trust. It’s a day to remember that the smallest acts of connection can make a big difference in someone’s life. 🤗💖

At Beritaz Care, we know the importance of comfort, compassion, and connections; it’s all part of the person-centred care provided in our homes. Whether it takes the form of hugs, a handshake, friendly chats, or simply being present, our staff are always happy to provide whatever support our residents need to bring a smile to their faces. Not to mention the four-legged visitors to our homes, who may be our residents’ favourite companions of all. 🐶🐾

Read more about how we work to build trust and form bonds between our residents and staff within our homes. Our most important goal is to make sure that every resident feels comfortable, safe, and at home in our care. https://beritazcare.co.uk/news/article/sharing-connections-hugs-and-trust-at-beritaz-care

We have lots of activities available for the residents of Springkell House, that not only provide a fun way to spend some time but are also beneficial for various cognitive skills. These kinds of games, that our residents particularly enjoy, are a great form of cognitive exercise, as well as providing a fun way to practice coordination and motor skills.

Recently, our residents have been enjoying playing board games and indoor ball games as a fun indoor pastime that they can enjoy by themselves, or while having a chat on a rainy afternoon. There are a variety of activities on offer for residents in addition to our organised group activities, and we are always happy to support our residents to keep up with their favourite hobbies.

There’s no reason why exercising your brain can’t be fun, or why playing games shouldn’t also offer wellbeing benefits. At Springkell House, we pride ourselves on combining both, and our residents are big fans!
