No seriously, really what do you want?
It’s so easy to give up
To dampen it down
To accept less
Say I’m lucky to be here
To believe you are not meant for more
We enter this world screaming to breathe
We take in the oxygen
We are alive
So many possibilities
But gradually life dampens you down
The school work
The homework
The endless exams
The endless ranking you by exam results
Label
Label
Label
Oh you are dyslexic
You are ADHD ( quick take some drugs )
You are hyperactive
You aren’t bright better just get married
You are a woman you can’t do that
Don’t ask for too much my uncle said
You might be disappointed
I don’t know why
But even in my early teens this seemed wrong
I didn’t know what I wanted to be or do
So I grabbed an idea
Equestrian journalist
Seemed ok
No one asked who I was inside
What lit me up
What did I really want!
And so life stacked up around me
Must do this
Must go to college
Now get a good job
Must find a good partner
These we’re not my ideas
These were societies expectations on me
And then life stacked on top
Abusive partners
Struggles with career
Challenges with health
And then finally a lone parent
When I left the USA for good
I was not the same courageous adventurous excited young woman
Life can do this to you
If you don’t build your life by determined decisions and self leadership
You end up living for other people in another world
So how to not end up being someone else
Firstly you recognise you aren’t you
Secondly you start to find your authentic self again (clue: start dreaming again)
Thirdly you create a blueprint for your life with you in a starting role!!
You shift your identity to who you really are deep inside and want to be again
You craft yourself like a sculptor cuts a stone so that you can shine brightly
No one will do this for you
No man, woman, parent, guru, mentor or friend can give you this
They can only open the door and hand you the book
You need to read it and walk along the path you create
Anyone can change
It sometimes takes a lot of pain
But it doesn’t have to be that way
You can choose You
You can choose to dream again
You can serve yourself first
It’s never too late to be You
