Cambridge Acorn Project

Cambridge Acorn Project We offer therapeutic work to children and families, schools and communities, across Cambridgeshire who have experienced trauma or emotional distress.

The Cambridge Acorn Project aims to provide services and support to individuals and groups suffering from trauma or stresses which either do not meet the threshold for statutory involvement, or where there are no services currently available to offer support. In particular we aim to support children and their parents to cope with traumatic, stressful or emotionally difficult situations in order to improve well-being and future prospects. Our work uses an empathy based approach in which understanding and mutual respect are crucial in working together with those in need. We take a holistic view to encompass issues of social justice, such as poverty and deprivation. We are currently able to provide one to one therapeutic support and also offer consultancy and training on all aspects of empathic responses to stress and trauma.

We’re so proud - and so grateful - to our incredible runners who completed theTTP Cambridge Half Marathon yesterday. 👏💛 Together, they have already raised over £6,000, with donations still coming in. This support helps us continue to be there for local children and families who need us - and we simply couldn’t do what we do without our committed fundraising community. 🌱

If you would like to support our brilliant runners, you can still donate here: https://www.givengain.com/campaign/cambridge-acorn-project-3498

Meet Matilda! 👋 She's one of our wonderful runners lacing up for the Cambridge Half Marathon in just 9 days! What makes her extra special is that she's part of our team here at Cambridge Acorn Project, working as a Social Prescriber. She sees every day the difference we make for local children and families, and that's exactly why she's running 🏃‍♀️

Go Matilda, go! 🎉 If you'd like to sponsor her and support our work, click here to donate: https://www.givengain.com/project/matilda-raising-funds-for-cambridge-acorn-project-118505 https://www.givengain.com/project/matilda-raising-funds-for-cambridge-acorn-project-118505

A huge thank you to for sharing our article, written by our Fundraising Manager, Kate Weir. 💛

Children's mental health needs are rising, waiting lists are growing, and we know families in our community are feeling it. That's why we continue to work to find new ways to show up for the children who need us most.

'Fundraising and Social Justice in a Time of Crisis' is a really honest look at how we are approaching that challenge - if you've got a spare 5 minutes, we would love for you to have a read and let us know what you think!

WHAT A DAY! 🎉 The Snowdrop Walk raised over £3,300 - our biggest fundraising day ever!

Around 700 people braved the rain (and enjoyed the sunshine!) to see the snowdrops, eat homemade cake, wander the woods and say hello to George the Clydesdale 🐴
These funds will make a real difference for children, young people and families in need across Cambridgeshire.

A HUGE thank you to Katherine Mann at Histon Manor, and to all the volunteers who made the day so special. We are so grateful. 💛

Our Story

Cambridge Acorn Project aims to provide services and support to individuals and groups suffering from trauma and/or emotional distress. In particular we aim to support children and their parents or carers to cope with traumatic, stressful or emotionally difficult situations in order to improve well-being and future prospects. Our work uses an empathy based approach in which understanding, trust and mutual respect are crucial in working together with those in need. We take a holistic view to encompass issues of social justice, such as poverty and deprivation. We offer 1:1 work, joint/family work, ‘structural’ (environmental) work and advocacy and we are currently piloting a number of projects, including a project which uses the video game Tetris to help reduce emotional distress. In 2019, we are hoping to pilot an innovative approach to community work entitled ‘Empathetic Communities’ and we are waiting on the outcome of a Stage 2 funding application with the Big Lottery Fund for this piece of work.
