Cambridge Acorn Project

Cambridge Acorn Project We offer therapeutic work to children and families, schools and communities, across Cambridgeshire who have experienced trauma or emotional distress.

The Cambridge Acorn Project aims to provide services and support to individuals and groups suffering from trauma or stresses which either do not meet the threshold for statutory involvement, or where there are no services currently available to offer support. In particular we aim to support children and their parents to cope with traumatic, stressful or emotionally difficult situations in order to improve well-being and future prospects. Our work uses an empathy based approach in which understanding and mutual respect are crucial in working together with those in need. We take a holistic view to encompass issues of social justice, such as poverty and deprivation. We are currently able to provide one to one therapeutic support and also offer consultancy and training on all aspects of empathic responses to stress and trauma.

What a week it’s been! 🎉 In just one week, we have raised over £32,000 — thanks to 80 incredible supporters who backed our Big Give . We are completely blown away!

It has been such an exciting week watching donations come in — from long-term supporters who pledged to donate months ago, to people we have never met who chose to back our work simply because they believe in what we do. Every single donation has meant so much to our small but mighty charity 💛

We are so incredibly grateful to this wonderful community. What a powerful and hopeful way to end the year. ❤️

⏳ Only hours left to make twice the impact! The Big Give Challenge ends 12pm tomorrow – and every donation is still matched until then.

We have £7,834 left to raise. Here’s what that could achieve:

🌱 391 weeks of enrichment activities for children – that’s 7.5 years of opportunities to learn, play, and thrive.
🤝 156 weeks of casework support for families – around 3 years of guidance through tough times.
🏡 78 family support packages to strengthen bonds and build attachment at home.
💛 7 families fully supported with a complete panoramic package of care.

Can you help us meet our target? Donate before the deadline:

Every child deserves a chance to heal and thrive. In Cambridgeshire, thousands of children are living with the effects of trauma - impacting their mental health, education, and future.

We walk alongside families to provide the support they need, but we can’t do it alone.
This Christmas, your donation will be doubled through the Big Give . Join us in making a difference today: https://donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05WS000005oyPZYAY

Our Story

Cambridge Acorn Project aims to provide services and support to individuals and groups suffering from trauma and/or emotional distress. In particular we aim to support children and their parents or carers to cope with traumatic, stressful or emotionally difficult situations in order to improve well-being and future prospects. Our work uses an empathy based approach in which understanding, trust and mutual respect are crucial in working together with those in need. We take a holistic view to encompass issues of social justice, such as poverty and deprivation. We offer 1:1 work, joint/family work, ‘structural’ (environmental) work and advocacy and we are currently piloting a number of projects, including a project which uses the video game Tetris to help reduce emotional distress. In 2019, we are hoping to pilot an innovative approach to community work entitled ‘Empathetic Communities’ and we are waiting on the outcome of a Stage 2 funding application with the Big Lottery Fund for this piece of work.
