Today is Global Running Day! 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

It’s not about competitive running but about bringing people together to celebrate the joy and benefits of running and all forms of physical activity from walking to running marathons! 🏃‍♀️‍➡️ Encouraging us all to lead healthier and better lives.

🏃‍♀️ Running provides lots of mental health benefits. It helps to reduce stress and improve mood. The endorphins produced boost the feel good feeling and also help to regulate cortisol which is linked to anxiety and stress.

🏃‍♀️‍➡️ Running can also be a good distraction from the daily stresses, providing a mental break and taking your mind away from worries.

🏃‍♀️ So why not go for a walk, jog or run today, get some lovely fresh air and a boost of happy hormones!

6 reasons to go for a walk!

🍂 Connect with nature. See the changing colours of autumn, it gives you a good feeling.

☀️ Get some Vitamin D, you can still get this from the sun even in a cloudy day.

🚶‍♀️Moving your body feels good and you can have a boost of endorphins from the exercise.

💡 Wander with your feet and allow your mind to wander too, having the space to think.

💻 Get away from screens! This helps to reduce stress and boost your mood.

🍂 Monday motivation! 🍂

🍂 This time of year can be particularly hard, darker nights, colder, rain, it can be easy to be focused on the negatives. The feelings of wanting to stay inside and pull the blanket over our heads and stay there can start to take over. This is when we need to boost our happy hormones more!

🍂 Autumn can be a beautiful season with lots of positives to focus on, changing colours and crisp air! Being aware of nature can boost our mental health and make us feel more grounded.

🍂 Exercise outside can be so much easier without worrying about the heat, and rain is great for cooling you down! Getting fresh air can make you feel amazing no matter what the weather!

🍂 The fresher air can give you a chance for a fresh perspective. Positive change for a better you!

🍂 Autumn is the start of mellow evenings with warm, nourishing food, roaring fires and cosy jumpers!

🍂 It’s important to find the positives and a sense of joy in every day. Not every day is good but there’s something good in every day.

Yesterday was Su***de Prevention Day.

Su***de can be a very difficult topic to talk about. The theme is about changing the narrative on su***de from silence and stigma to support and talking openly, taking down barriers and raising awareness.

Some things to think about;

• People don’t fake depression, they fake being ok.

• Talking about su***de to someone isn’t going to make them more likely to do it. It’s more likely to make them feel supported and heard.

• Depressed people often want to withdraw from the world, check in on your friends and family.

• A warning sign to look out for is if a suicidal person suddenly seems calm and happy in an out of character way, they may have come to terms with their decision to end their life. Also extra loving messages with hidden goodbyes are another warning sign.

• Don’t use the term ‘committed’ su***de, it’s not a crime and just adds to the stigma.

• Talking, talking, talking, it’s a tough topic but talking can be the key to prevention.

We all need to think about our mental health and wellbeing. You are not alone.

I ran my first park run 5km on Saturday 🏃‍♀️ I used to run years ago but gave up after a knee injury. I’m so happy to be running again for the wonderful happy hormones!

Exercise increases your overall health and your sense of well being. It also helps reduce stress by boosting the production of your brain’s feel-good happy hormones called endorphins.

Endorphins are neurotransmitters released by the pituitary gland and hypothalamus in the brain. As natural hormones, they can alleviate pain, lower stress, boost your mood and improve your sense of well being. The body releases endorphins when you do pleasurable activities such as exercise and laughing. So have fun and do the things that make you feel good! 🏃‍♀️

Happy Friday!

Hope you have all had a really good week! It’s always nice to look forward to the weekend, but it’s important not to miss the good bits of the week too! Sometimes we can spend so much time focusing on things in the future that we miss what’s happening today! Not every day is good but there’s something good in every day 😊 Enjoy the moment, make the most of every day and when you start to see the good, life is so much more positive and easier!
