Just to let you know that I am thinking of you in these trying times. I hope you are well and coping with the lockdown. If you need help to cope emotionally with the current situation try some of the following:-
1. Allow yourself to feel what you’re feeling and accept them.
2. Do something that you have control over, something to help give your a sense of accomplishment.
3 You could also create a daily routine, which would provide structure and a sense of control.
4. Do your best to stick to a sleep schedule. Inadequate or poor sleep can cause anxiety.
5. Eat something nutritious, at least once a day, avoid too much comfort food.
6. Do fun things you enjoy. This can distract your brain with things that bring you a boost.
7. If you haven’t left the house in a while, consider doing something you find soothing. Relaxation techniques can improve your quality of life and may reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.
8. Reach out to someone you’re comfortable talking to and talk. This will give you a reliable source of support and encouragement.
If you are struggling and would like a consultation, I can arrange an appointment on Skype, What’s App or the telephone. Just send me a message.
Keep well.

Couple Counselling in Practice - Self disruptive behaviour

Presenter: Helen Springer

“What pain is the client soothing with their self-destructive behaviour?”

Like me, I feel sure that you often wonder why some of your clients continue to behave in a way that is not conducive to their happiness or to contentment in their relationships.

In this workshop I am going to focus on types of self disruptive behaviours, the causes of these behaviours and how their upbringing reinforce them. How can we as Counsellors help our clients to make the changes necessary to promote peace in themselves and their relationships.

What can you expect from couple counselling?

4. The counsellor will help you to establish where you are and your goals for counselling.

When you first arrive for counselling you are usually pretty unhappy with your lives together and want to tell the counsellor all about it or alternatively you might be reluctant to say anything. The counsellor’s job is to help clarify the emotions and grievances that you have with each other. The counsellor will need to control the session so that each person is able to say how they feel and help you to see how each other views the situation and to be able to say ideally how you would like life to be like.

What can you expect from couple counselling?
3. You will learn new ways of behaving and practice them in the counselling sessions

The counsellor or psychotherapist will help you to understand why and what is causing you to behave the way you are and help you to make the necessary changes to achieve the behaviour that you aspire to. Working with both partners to gain insights into what each person wants and needs. Thus step by step each person can understand and adapt to the needs of the other.

What can you expect from couple counselling?

2. We will consider each of your issues one at a time

By the time that people decide to go for counselling, there are often many issues causing distress and it can feel very overwhelming. The counsellor will listen carefully to issues that are currently around for you and help reduce the stress by acknowledging all of them and then focus on one at a time to help you to get insight into what you have been doing or feeling about each issue and help you to discover what changes you can make to ameliorate the problem. With every success you will feel better.

What can you expect from couple counselling?

1. We will pay attention to the positive and the negative feelings in your relationship

When you seek counselling you are probably experiencing difficulties which can seem to be overwhelming. The negative feelings tend to come pouring out in the first session. The counsellor will also help you to consider what is positive about your relationship on which you can build as you deal with your negative feelings.
