So I recently had the privilege to support an incredible HBAC (home birth after caesarean) ๐ก๐
Emma is truly inspiring and was faced with many challenges along her antenatal journey which she faced head on. After an elective C-section with her first birth, hospital guidelines recommended a consultant led birth on the labour ward, but armed with up to date evidence based information and the belief that home was where she felt safest Emma knew she wanted to plan for a HBAC. With the Bedford home birth team being disbanded last year and with what can only be described as a huge lack of transparency and communication initially from her local trust, we were left unsure as to whether midwives would even be available to support Emma at home. But with determination and drive Emma made sure she got the support she needed to plan her home birth with the support of the community midwives and Doula (me โบ๏ธ)
๐๐ป To say proud is an understatement, we were all crying and so happy and relived that Emma got the HBAC she so wanted and so deserved. A real journey of inner strength, determination and triumph, what a bloody superstar. Babyโs placenta was born with ease within a couple of minutes and Emma, Paul, Baby Joshua and Baxter their dog ๐ถwere all snuggled, drinking tea and eating toast in no time. Joshua is thriving and such a happy little boy, surrounded by love including his brilliant and caring big brother Alexander ๐
Birth doesnโt have to be perfect, it doesnโt have to be pain free, it doesnโt have to be plain sailing. Birth is raw, it unpredictable but its incredible and Emma and Paul are now feeling so empowered and overjoyed at their choice to have their HBAC - Magic โจ
