πŸ’œ What Is Osteopathy?

πŸ’œ Osteopathy is better understood than sports therapy, but we still get the odd patient who isn't sure what we do. It's understandable, because there are many osteopathic styles and osteopaths tend the favour some techniques over others which shapes their clinic vibe.

πŸ’œ Sam uses a more 'gentle' approach to treatment. For example, you are unlikely to find yourself bent into a pretzel to have your body clicked from head to toe, but her existing patients can probably tell you a thing or two about her pointy elbows!

πŸ’œ Sam prefers to use a very wide range of techniques, so she does use spinal/joint manipulation (clicking) but will often choose a different approach. Her aim is to achieve long term results for our patients instead of reliance on weekly visits.

πŸ’œ If something hurt then you know where to find us, contact us now ‡

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Running Is For Everyone!

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Sam has always has to run for a reason, as part of her lacrosse training, to get fitter, faster, more powerful, better footwork, improve her cardio fitness. But in 2024, when she returned to exercise after having her daughter, she discovered that it is possible to run for fun, with no goals, no time requirement, no speed requirement, and even no distance requirement. Just hit the pvement, trainers on, music in ears and return home when you feel like it.

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Running has been a big part of Tas's routine, too. To play football, to train for football and, most impressively, she committed to training for the London Marathon the other year. For those of you not familiar with marathon training, it is strict, progressively more difficult, time consuming and often takes over your life as top priority. It does mean she could have a good shot at outrunning a bear if it chased her, though!

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ If you've taken up running this year, or are thinking about it, then allow us to guide you. Tas can do gait analysis at the clinic, we can advise on trainers, we can help you stay injury free or fix the niggling pains that may be holding you back.

πŸ’› What Is Sports Therapy?

πŸ’› A lot of patients are unsure what a Sports Therapist does so we've created this easy picture guide for you!

Three myths we regularly hear:
- Sports therapy is massage - No, it's not! It is distinctly different from sports massage therapy, a better way to describe it is a cross between osteopathy and physiotherapy.

- Sports therapy is for athletes - No, it's for everyone!

- Sports therapy is a weekend course - No, it's a full 3 year degree! And the best Sports Therapists, like our Tas, do regular continued professional development to enhance their skills and level up their understanding

πŸ’› So next time you have something that hurts, consider booking with Tas to have it investigated and treated πŸ™Œ

⭐ New Year, New Me... Or Maybe Not?

⭐ We've survived January, only 2 days left before Feburary hits and Spring feels like it's on the horizon! This always feels like a weight off Sam's shoulders because she finds the come-down from Christmas and the dark, cold, wet January drag on longer than necessary.

⭐ A little later than usual, but here is the New Year blog, it's short and sweet, but worth the read.

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ A Story of Motherhood: Recovery

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ The next blog in the Motherhood Story series is all about recovery. It is Sam's first hand experience of what happened from just after delivery up to a few weeks after returning home. Sam is choosing to share these personal perspectives because, when she was preparing for birth and recovery she hadn't even considered a c-section could be on the cards and felt totally unprepared for what came next.

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ Please remember these are personal experiences for Sam and what she did to help herself, so what worked for Sam may not necessarily work for you. Every recovery is different, and you may share some, one or none of Sam's experiences. THAT'S OKAY, and it doesn't mean there is anything wrong. You can find the blog on our website, just click the link below.

Recovery after birth is hard, and often not ever portrayed honestly so here is Sam’s unfiltered experience from Wisbey Osteopathy

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ A Story of Motherhood: Labour

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ The next blog in the Motherhood Story series is all about labour and delivery. It is Sam's first hand experience of what happened from the moment she found out she was in latent labour up to the delivery of her beautiful baby. Sam is choosing to share these personal perspectives because, when she was preparing for labour, it was difficult to find anything other than textbook perfect deliveries or something that seemed to be pulled straight from a horror story. Sam's sit's somwhere in the middle!

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ Please remember these are personal experiences for Sam and what she did to help herself, so what worked for Sam may not necessarily work for you. Every labour and delivery is different, and you may share some, one or none of Sam's symptoms, THAT'S OKAY, and it doesn't mean there is anything wrong. You can find the blog on our website.

πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ If you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or have recently given birth, then Sam is here to help you:

🀰🏻 A Story of Motherhood: Pregnancy

🀰🏻 After my deliberation, Sam has decided to share her experience of each stage of her transition into motherhood. Generally she keeps the personal details personal. But she found it difficult to find any firsthand accounts of the less glamourous side of pregancy, birth and recovery.

🀰🏻 Much of what she found online was either fitness influencers with dreamy pregnancies who were still able to throw barbells around in the gym at 39 weeks, or people who were able to financially access a vast number of professionals to look after them when things were tricky. There wasn't a lot out of insight for people who sit in the middle: enter Sam!

🀰🏻 The experiences will be split into pregnancy, labour, recovery and first year of being a mum. Please remember these are personal experiences for Sam and what she did to help herself, so what worked for Sam may not necessarily work for you. Every pregnancy is different, and you may share some, one or none of Sam's symptoms, THAT'S OKAY, and it doesn't mean there is anything wrong. You can find the blog on our website.

🀰🏻 If you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or have recently given birth, then Sam is here to help you:

πŸ”₯ Burnout & How To Beat It

πŸ”₯ Burnout is a debilitating issue, and most of us miss the signs it's happening until it's too late. It's the kind of thing that creeps up on us, and like many physical injuries, we ignore it and hope that it'll just go away on it's own. Spoiler alert: it doesn't

πŸ”₯ Getting through burnout requires a little bit of effort, so we've written a handy guide on how to recognise it in yourself and it others, as well as how to beat it and stop it from overwhelming you again!

πŸ”₯ All of our therapies can help with burnout recovery in one way or another, so if you aren't sure how to help yourself then contact us and we'll have a chat!
