It is with deep sorrow to announce that our Matriarch, Mrs Margaret Burgess, passed away over the weekend. She was surrounded by family and her beloved dog, as she wished.

Mrs B was part of the funeral profession for over 60 years, continuing the family business after the passing of her husband in 1987, despite it being a male-dominated profession. She continued to be an integral part of the family business and helped it grow in the Hertfordshire area. Her professionalism and dedication to the funeral profession was admired by all who met her and has been passed on to her son, the 6th generation proprietor.

We will continue to uphold her principles, integrity and respect for the funeral profession as she set before her.

The funeral service will be on Saturday 22nd November at 1pm at St Etheldreda’s Church.

John J Burgess passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Despite an attempted hostile takeover by Howard Hodson care of Dennis Amis, his widow Margaret E Burgess took over the day to day running of the business.
