He’s so right- good health is about both mind and body. They are inextricably linked. So yes, but it’s also good to too. Thank you The Body Coach for sharing your story and the passion you have for good health.
The little boy in this photo was living in a home with 2 parents struggling with their mental health. My Dad was a he**in addict in and out of rehab and relapses while my Mum was battling with extreme OCD with cleaning, anxiety, panic attacks and an eating disorder. Home life was unstable, unpredictable, chaotic and stressful for me and my brother Nikki.
These were all things I didn’t really understand at the time but I do remember a feeling inside of being scared to talk to anyone about it because I feared I would be taken away from them if people knew how we were living.
Thank God I found my therapy in those early years through movement and exercise at primary school. I’ve always said PE and exercise saved my life and took me down a totally different path to what it could have been. I realised at about 4 years old that when I exercised or played sport I could physically remove stress and anxiety from my body. I could forget about the madness from the night before or the worry of everything changing in a moment and so exercise became my best friend that no one could take away from me.
I know many children today are not moving enough, or sedentary and living with parents who may struggle with their own mental health too. This is the reason I’m so focussed on helping young people move their bodies and feel the same way I do about exercise. If I can teach a child to connect the dots with exercise and their mind I believe it can change their life forever 💙
