Paying staff a reasonable rate is essential to help our wonderful carers feel valued and have at least a chance of battling escalating costs of living. We are committed to this and also recognise that paying a little bit more can make a huge difference to their lives. 🌸 World Menopause Day 2025 🌸 Last Saturday marked an important moment of reflection and recognition. With a workforce made up almost entirely of women, we understand firsthand the challenges menopause can bring—especially in domiciliary care, where long drives, hot environments, and brain fog are part of the daily routine.

As an employer that truly values and respects our team, we’re committed to supporting women through this journey. That means listening, making thoughtful adjustments, and ensuring no one feels alone during this time.

In line with this, we’re proud to share that we’ve just completed our Menopause Policy, which will now be put into action to further support our much-valued staff. It’s one more step in creating a workplace where women feel seen, supported, and empowered.

We are looking forward to this excellent event at Dartington Trust on October 14th where we will certainly be participating in the debate.

Our mission is to support elderly and vulnerable in rural Devon through our domiciliary service, and we believe that:

- Rural care needs a unique focus - currently provision and support in most parts of the country is patchy at best, and often non-existent
- The current funding support for many elderly and infirm living in the countryside is insufficient for many who need it, forcing individuals to make impossible choices
- The current situation needs creative solutions from Government, Local Authorities, the NHS and providers as an aging population means the situation is only going to get worse!

Great article that illustrates the key issue in health and social care - elderly people, in particular, are not able to leave hospital because of an absence of support when they return home, meaning less capacity to treat people in the hospitals.

Proper funding of healthcare for people living in their own homes is critical if we are to resolve the health crisis. Investment in this area is not a “nice to do” it is essential.

At CWK we are the only Devon care organisation that specifically aims to provide high quality and affordable care to elderly people in rural areas. For us, notwithstanding our social purpose principles, we are limited by the number of local authority funded people we can support because of the low rates of reimbursement we receive. Given our aim of providing great terms and conditions for our wonderful carers - this is a challenging problem to resolve.
