I was delighted run a workshop at Olive Tree Cancer Support Group yesterday, and one of the things that came up again and again was:
“My feet just don’t feel the same anymore.”
During or after cancer treatment, it’s very common for feet to become more sensitive, more reactive, or harder to get comfortable — whether that’s due to peripheral neuropathy, swelling, nail or skin changes.
And something we talked about a lot yesterday was how footwear that’s always worked for you before suddenly doesn’t.
That favourite pair you’ve worn for years might no longer give you the comfort or support your feet now need.
👣 Sometimes, simple changes can make a real difference:
• Softer, more cushioned trainers to reduce pressure
• A wider, foot-shaped fit to give your toes space
• Adjustable styles to accommodate day-to-day changes
• Even a supportive, cushioned sandal at home to make standing easier
Our role, especially in cancer care, is to help you stay comfortable enough to keep living your life.
For the session, we were kindly supported by Up & Running Horsham, who lent us a range of footwear so people could see and feel the difference. They also kindly offered a discount to those who attended on the day, which was a lovely touch.
Because when your feet feel better, everything else becomes that little bit easier.
