The five faces of fasting!
Just back from a week long detox, including a 5 day fast. I decided to document it by taking a selfie every day to remind me of the experience.
Day 1 - This was actually day 2 as I decided to juice fast the day before to help me ease into the process. I felt pretty good, did a beach walk, and my energy levels were pretty good. π
Day 2 - I definitely felt a bit weaker, but I was able to take part in all the activities and felt fine but psychologically struggled with my perception of the amount of fasting ahead.ππ€
Day 3 - My blood pressure dropped after going in the hot tub and nearly passed out. However, I felt better by the end of the day. I still took part in Tai chi and yoga. π§ββοΈπ«©
Day 4 - This was by far my hardest day. I felt really sick. My energy levels were low, but I made it out for a walk and was much better by the end of the day. π€’
Day 5 - This was my best day. My energy levels were restored. The nausea had gone, and I felt really good. We went for another beach walk, which was great. I wasn't hungry and felt like I could've fasted for longer.πͺπ
Day 6 - Reintegrated eating again with fresh salads and fruit. Weirdly, I didn't feel hungry, but the more I ate, the more I wanted to eat. I think Id felt better in day 5 tbh. π₯π₯πππππ
My take away is this. Doing hard things is good because it gives you perspective about the small insignificant things we get stressed about everyday!
Doing hard things with others for support makes it much easier and I'm glad I had my bestie there, as well as all the incredible people I met. Community is everything!
I've learnt a lot and have changed physically and mentally. This was a life-changing experience that will stay with me forever, and I'm grateful for the experience. β€οΈ
It has also made me more grateful for having access to an abundance of food. A luxury that is not afforded to everyone. π
