Lisa Curme Massage Therapy

Lisa Curme Massage Therapy Using techniques such as trigger-point therapy, myofascial release, sports stretching and soft tissue release to reduce pain and improve movement.

I have always been fascinated by the anatomy and structure of the human body and the way in which its delicate balance can be affected by our work, activities, lifestyles and emotions. Combining my in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology with an intuitive approach, I create a tailored series of treatments for each client to suit their particular needs. I use a variety of Eastern and Western techniques to identify and treat the source of pain and injury. Manipulating muscles and other soft tissues, I aim to restore balance and to allow the body to heal itself, ultimately reducing or eliminating pain and increasing range of movement.

I've been fascinated by scars and their impact on the body for ages. I love the fact that the lightest of touches can have such a profound effect on their feelings, appearance and impact on the rest of the body. Now I have completed my scar work training and can't wait to bring this new skill to my work.

Recently I've been asking all of the clients I see with persistent, headaches and neck and shoulder pain about their jaw and whether they have any issues in that area. A surprising number of them reveal that they grind or clench their teeth, they wear a mouth guard at night or they have unexplained jaw or tooth pain. Mostly they are completely unaware that this could be causing the tension in their neck and shoulders and their headaches. They have never thought to mention it but it completely changes the way that I approach their treatment.

Sometimes I still find it hard to believe that I get to do this job. Its such a long way from the desk I used to sit at as Resource and Logistics manager at the Probation Service!!! That job made me so miserable and I would sit at my desk and think 'is this it?'. 'Is this what the rest of my life is going to be?' and I would dream of doing a job where I got to be myself, do something I enjoyed and not wear any shoes!! I never thought that I would ever actually make it happen but here I am...😀

Long post alert!!
I often get asked why I hold a spot in the middle of my clients foot at the beginning of a treatment....and I have always had difficulty giving an answer that makes sense!! 😂 A few years ago I went on an energy healing course and one of the places we were taught to work was that spot on the sole of the foot. I noticed that when I did this I could feel real shifts and movements in my clients energy. It seemed to help people relax and 'arrive' in the room. Sometimes I would feel a wave of energy rush down to meet my touch in their feet and I would notice that they would take a deep breath or yawn. This week I got curious about what might be happening so I did a little research and this point in the foot seems to come up in various healing modalities. There is an accupressure point there called Bubbling Spring that is used to bring energy down from the head and support connection to the earth.

In Reflexology - this area is linked to the diaphragm/solar plexus which would explain why my clients often let out a deep sigh when I work on it. And if you look at the energy system of the body it relates to the Third Chakra or Solar plexus which is linked to the lungs. Again when I looked at the myofascial system of the body this point creates a link to the diaphragm and stimulates the nerves and connective tissue in this area.
I love it when something I have been doing and feeling quite intuitively make perfect sense!

Sometimes it takes a while to get a breakthrough with a clients issue but it feels so good when we do! I have a client who comes in for regular monthly treatments. We have been working on a niggling pain she gets in her hamstrings when she runs. We have made some gradual improvement but it is still bothering her. I I decided to try a different approach in her last session. I was feeling for deep trigger points in the hamstrings and muscles of the inner thigh and right deep in the tissue I found a spot that felt 'blocked' and as if something was 'stuck'. I maintained some gentle pressure on the area and encouraged the tissue and fascia to move in whichever way it needed to. All of a sudden I felt a release and twitch in the tissue and some significant involuntary movement in the client's leg...it took us both a bit by surprise!! This is my favourite type of result because this is the body healing itself and your body always knows best. I can't wait to find out how she is feeling when she next comes in.

There are still a few places left for this Saturday so.....pop over to www.feedthefit.co.uk and sign up.

Does your neck feel stiff or achy? Does it crunch or crack when you move? Have you developed 'tech neck' from being in front of a screen all day or spending hours on zoom? Are you suffering from tension headaches? It doesn't have to be that way. Learn how to take care of your neck and get back to feeling great.
This workshop will give you some simple and effective tricks that you can use to help look after your neck and relieve some of those aches and pains. We will look beyond muscles and posture to a more holistic view that takes into account the impact of your energy, your emotions, your fascia, and even the way you breathe. You will learn self massage techniques, stretches and how to take care of your fascia using the MELT® method.

Hope to see you there.

Taking care of you means taking care of me...

I am constantly telling my clients to take better care of themselves and to take care of themselves first; so this is me walking the talk in the woods, in the rain, and taking my own expert advice! How calming is that sound of the rain and the beautiful bird song??!
I know that if I don't take the time to process the day, recentre recharge and rebalance my energy I reduce my ability to show up open and present and available for my clients.
Walking in the rain may not be your thing but how are you showing up and taking care of yourself today?
