Martlets Hospice

Martlets Hospice Martlets is a local charity that provides terminally ill people in Brighton and Hove, and surrounding areas, with the very best care and support.

Our expert team helps patients live life to the full during the precious time they have left. Martlets opened in 1997. The staff and services were formed from the merger of three separate charities: Coppercliff Hospice, Tarner and MacMillan Day Hospice. Across the hospice services, more than 25,000 local people have been supported and cared for since 1997. Most people receive care from us in their

own homes. Outpatients also visit our hospice for pain relief, physiotherapy, counselling, welfare advice and social activities. Others choose to spend their final days here, or to join us as inpatients for respite care or symptom management. Thank you for your generous support – it enables us to provide exceptional care that changes lives.

Marathon week magic is here! 🏃‍♀️

Meet Nadia, one of our incredible inpatient unit nurses, who’s been caring for patients at Martlets for the past two years. 💙

She’s no stranger to a challenge – having already run the Brighton and Paris Marathons for Martlets – and this weekend, she’s taking on her biggest one yet: the London Marathon 🙌

“I’m proud to be fundraising for Martlets again, this time by running the London Marathon. It’s an absolute honour and privilege to work in hospice care. My colleagues are brilliant, and together we’re able to give patients truly holistic care, finding out what really matters to them. Please support Martlets if you can.”

— Nadia

Nadia is going the extra mile for our patients – and we couldn’t be more grateful 💙
👏 Good luck, Nadia and all our runners taking part in London – we’ll be cheering every step of the way!

⏰ Final week – we need your vote! 🎬✨

We’re incredibly proud to be a finalist in the People’s Choice category of the Smiley Charity Film Awards — and this is the last chance to have your say.

Our film, ‘We’re here for you. Will you be here for us?’, has already helped raise funds for hospice care. Now, in the final week of voting, your support could help it reach thousands more people across the UK and win vital funds.

Marc’s story gives voice to the comfort and compassion palliative care brings — and the very real fear many people feel about whether this care will be there when they need it most.

❤️ Every vote counts - it's close at the top!

⏱️ Voting takes just 10 seconds.

Thank you for helping us shine a light on the life‑changing importance of hospice care. 💛

Christian is taking on the Brighton Marathon in memory of his mum, Maria — and to give back to Martlets after the compassionate care she received during her final weeks.💙

He shares how running has helped him navigate his grief and why hospice care meant so much to his family:

“I lost my mum to cancer in July 2025, and running has become a kind of therapy for me — a way to process my grief. When Mum moved to Martlets it was a sanctuary after weeks of hospital noise and distress, where small acts of kindness from staff made all the difference. The lack of hospice funding in the UK is heartbreaking, so please help fundraise in any way you can.”

When Ian received end-of-life care on Martlets’ inpatient unit, his family experienced compassion, calm, and personalised support that made an overwhelming time feel bearable.

Neil says:

“The staff at Martlets took time to understand who Ian really was — his sense of humour, the things he loved talking about, and all the little nuances that made him Ian. That connection brought warmth and dignity to every moment of his care. After Ian died, I set up a monthly donation to Martlets and gave Ian’s belongings to their charity shops. Ian also left a gift to Martlets in his Will — a lasting act of kindness that will help other local families receive the same level of specialist care.”

Hospice care is in crisis across the UK, and we need your support now more than ever.
If you believe everyone deserves dignified end-of-life care, please consider helping in any way you can:

💙 Donating
💙 Leaving a gift in your Will
💙 Volunteering
💙 Fundraising

Every act of support helps ensure that families like Ian’s receive the care and comfort they deserve.
