"I Don't Remember Who Shot Me" is a normal statement with victim’s of weaponised violent crime! WHY?

Yes, the WEAPON FOCUS EFFECT applies directly to victims of crimes. In fact, victims (along with bystanders) are the primary subjects who experience this phenomenon, which is a cognitive bias where a person's attention is narrowed to a weapon, causing them to remember fewer details about the perpetrator, (EBSCO).

Here is how the weapon focus effect impacts victims and witnesses:

1. ATTENTION NARROWING:

When a weapon is present, a victim’s attention is captured by the threatening object, often resulting in high-stress levels.

2. REDUCED MEMORY OF PERPETRATOR:

Because attention is focused on the weapon (e.g., a gun or knife), victims are often unable to accurately recall details about the perpetrator's face, clothing, or voice.

3. HIGH-STRESS SITUATIONS:

The effect is stronger in situations where a victim feels directly threatened, as the perceived danger increases the focus on the weapon.

4. UNEXPECTED OBJECTS:

The effect occurs not just with guns, but with any unexpected item (e.g., a syringe or a knife) that appears in a context where it is not supposed to be.

5. EXCEPTIONS:

Research suggests that if a victim is very familiar with the person holding the weapon, or if the situation is less of a surprise, the effect may not be as strong.

** Now you can fairly judge on the gardner's statement, the he doesn't remember who shot him, but it's not Bellarmine! **
