π―πππ HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY TO MR JAMES 'JIM' LAWSON! π―πππ
With kind permission from his family, we at Deveron Way would like to share with you the story of our dear Jim Lawson, who turns 100 years old today. Sent to us by his daughters, below are some photographs of this amazing man, who is so beloved by our Staff and fellow Residents.

Jim was born in Glasgow, on the 18th of April, 1926. His parents were Daniel and Margaret Lawson, and he had a younger sister called Betty.
In 1940, Jim left school at the age of 14, and took up work at a butcherβs shop. In 1945, when he was 19, he was called up for the army, where he trained with the Black Watch and was posted overseas to Southeast Asia. There, he served in and around Singapore for two years, just after WW2.
In 1947, Jim returned home to Scotland, where he got a job working for the Ministry of Agriculture as a Livestock Inspector. 2 years later, he met Dr Hazel Short, and after marrying in 1952, they moved in together at Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. Hazel worked hard as a GP, whilst Jim worked at the steelworks, and then as a travelling sales rep.
During the 1960βs, Jim was also an Assistant Scoutmaster for the 26th Scunthorpe Boy Scouts Group, a role he was immensely proud of. Jim and Hazel had two children together, Heather, born in July 1956, and Aileen, born in June 1959 (who are pictured with him today). In 1965, Hazel sadly passed away aged 39, and Jim continued to look after the children in Lincolnshire until he met Roberta Gordon.
Jim remarried Roberta in December 1966, and the whole family moved back to Glasgow. There, Jim studied hard to become qualified as a Meat Inspector in East Kilbride, working for the Environmental Health Department.
For 11 years, the family lived in Burnside, in Glasgow, but in 1978 they moved to Turriff, and later to Banff, as Jimβs work took him to different parts of Aberdeenshire. Finally, in 1988, Jim retired from his work as an inspector, and he and Roberta spent their days together until she passed away in April of 2004.
Jim has a variety of interests, including Amateur dramatics, jewellery-making and stone polishing, he speaks spanish, played a lot of golf, and most importantly - he has a lifelong love of Poetry!
Jim has had an interest in writing poetry throughout his life. He was a member of the Scots Society in Scunthorpe, and was the President of this Society in the 1960s. He had a book of his poems printed in the 1990s, and he can recount his poetry even today.
Now, Jim is a well-loved and vibrant member of our Home at Deveron Way, and he enjoys spending time out in the fresh air, listening to the live musicians that visit, and he always has time to speak to anyone at any time of day. As he turns 100 this year, we are proud of his continued health and spirit, and we thank Jim for brightening our days here at Deveron Way.
