The community in Hyde and Greater Manchester has been deeply saddened by the news of Ricky Hatton's passing.
As many know, Ricky was a beloved local hero who openly spoke about his own struggles with mental health. His death is a powerful reminder that mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of their success or public image.
In this difficult time, it is more important than ever to look after ourselves and each other. If you are struggling, please know that you are not alone and there is support available right here in our community.
Here are some resources that can help:
Healthy Minds (now known as Tameside and Glossop Talking Therapies)
-What they do: Provide mental health guidance and support for a range of issues, including anxiety and depression.
-Age group: For people aged 16 and over.
-Contact: You can self-refer by completing their online form or by calling 0161 716 4333.
Off The Record Tameside
-What they do: A free and confidential counselling service for young people.
-Age group: For young people aged 13-25.
-Contact: You can call them on 07917 042930 or email webmail@otr-tameside.org. They have an office in Hyde and also offer services by appointment.
Kooth App
-What it is: A free, safe, and anonymous online mental wellbeing community and counselling service.
-Age group: For children and young people aged 10-25.
Contact: You can register directly on their website at www.kooth.com No referral is needed.
Andy's Man Club
-Who they are: A UK charity providing free, peer-to-peer mental health support groups for men 18+. Their mission is to end the stigma around men's mental health.
-What they offer: Weekly, free-to-attend talking groups for men to openly share struggles in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Volunteers who have attended the club facilitate the groups.
-How to contact: Find a group via their website or email info@andysmanclub.co.uk. The Ashton group meets at Ashton United's Hurst Cross Stadium on Mondays at 7 pm.
MenTell
-Who they are: A men's mental health charity offering safe, confidential spaces for men 18+ to talk, aiming to reduce the stigma of open conversation.
-What they offer: Free, peer-to-peer "circles" that are free from advice and judgment. These groups allow men to talk, listen, and connect. They offer both online and in-person sessions.
-How to contact: Visit www.mentell.org.uk or email admin@mentell.org.uk.
Samaritans
-What they do: A confidential listening service for anyone in emotional distress. They are available 24/7, 365 days a year.
-Age group: All ages.
-Contact: You can call them for free at any time on 116 123. You can also email jo@samaritans.org, though responses may take longer.
