Thank you Forest Gayte Pride CIC for sharing this important safety info 👇
We’ve heard about recent reports of Grindr being used to rob people in the area, and wanted to raise awareness, and share tips incorporating advice from .org.uk guidelines.
✨Verify who you’re talking to - With the recent incidents the robbers used photos taken from the internet, so it’s important to be sure the photos match the person you’re messaging. Try reverse photo searches to check if they are catfishing. Ask for more than just body pics, suggest a gesture they can do for a selfie or use in-app video chat to confirm they are who they claim to be.
✨Trust your instincts: If something feels too good to be true or “off,” stop messaging or block the user immediately.
Be mindful of information: Avoid sharing your home address, workplace, or full name too soon.
✨Spot unusual chat: Be cautious if someone uses your name, address, or place of work before you have disclosed them, as this can indicate stalking or phishing.
