Almost all NHS trusts are missing a major cancer target with some of the worst performers seeing only about half of patients on time. The NHS has a long-standing target for 85% of patients to wait no longer than 62 days from their cancer referral being received to beginning treatment. It has failed to do so at a national level since 2014.

A "critical incident" has been declared at Nottingham University Hospitals due to an increase in demand the trust has struggled to meet. The hospital stated that it had seen "significant demand" on services in the last week, particularly in A&E, which had resulted in patients suffering "unacceptable and lengthy waits" in corridors.

The average annual costs of residential care is £67,496 and nursing care £79,820. There is currently no cap on care home fees in the UK.
