Keighley Dementia Advice Community Group have shared 'The Seven Steps To A Dementia Diagnosis' to help those currently going through this worrying time. Make sure to take a look!

The Steps to a Dementia Diagnosis:

In the UK, getting a dementia diagnosis usually happens through the NHS, and it’s often not a quick process but knowing the steps can help you prepare and push for support.

1. Spotting the Signs
Memory loss, confusion, mood changes, or difficulties with language or daily tasks may be early signs. Trust your gut, early concerns are worth raising.

2. See Your GP
Your first step is the GP. They’ll take a medical history and may run basic tests. If dementia is suspected, they’ll refer you to a memory clinic or specialist service.

3. The Waiting Game
In many parts of the UK, wait times can range from weeks to several months for a memory clinic appointment. It’s frustrating but push for support while you wait. Charities like Alzheimer’s Society can help.

4. Cognitive & Functional Testing
At the memory clinic, you’ll have more in-depth assessments: memory, attention, problem-solving, mood, and daily function.

5. Blood Tests & Health Checks
To rule out other causes like vitamin deficiencies, thyroid issues, or infections.

6. Brain Scans (CT/MRI)
Scans help identify physical changes in the brain — such as shrinkage or signs of stroke and may support a dementia diagnosis.

7. Diagnosis & Follow-Up
The clinic will bring together all the results and either give a diagnosis or recommend further investigation. You should receive a care plan and referrals to support services.

📞 8. Get Support While You Wait
Even without a formal diagnosis, you can contact:
• Alzheimer’s Society
• Age UK
• Carers UK
• Local adult social care service
. Local Dementia support services

🧩 Early action means better planning, more support, and peace of mind — even if the system takes time.

❄️ When the weather turns cold, our commitment stays strong ❄️

While the cold and ice keep many people indoors, our care professional's are still out and about making sure the older people in our community stay safe, warm, and comfortable in their own homes.

All of our care professionals are drivers, so if your loved one isn’t feeling confident heading out right now, our dedicated team are always happy to pop to the shops for them.

Because care doesn’t stop when the weather changes💚
