Unicam Therapeutic Pedal System (TPS) applies cycling-based movements to the treatment of a wide range of lower limb impairments, The TPS allows for those with limitations in the knee or hip movement to be accommodated, and for the therapist to be able to prescribe treatments to regain functional movement and strength. The patient benefits in being able to participate in their own treatment – therapist-controlled, patient-driven exercise. Clients with the most severe joint restrictions can benefit much earlier in their rehabilitation journey. They benefit from a “real life" cycling activity that can be continued after treatment finishes and in many cases improves their quality of life. The TPS is numerical, corresponding to specific ranges of movement, therefore treatments can be repeatable or progressive. The numerical system transfers to our recreational cycling based Retroflex system
Typical examples of use; assisting in hip or knee replacement therapy, Trauma, Amputee, ACL reconstruction, other soft tissue injuries, regional pain syndrome, to more chronic arthritic conditions. Available in a number of options; each providing additional features. In most cases a client will procure the TPS4, with TPS2 and TPS3 utilised as a back-up within a busy department or practice. The Unicam Retroflex, further utilises this unique movement to enable almost all abilities to enjoy the benefits of cycling. Cycling regularly will help improve strength, joint mobility and reduce pain associated with stiff and painful joints. Unicam Retroflex accommodates almost any restriction in knee, ankle and hip bend ranges and can be used on one or both sides. The pedal crank on a conventional cycle is of a fixed length and requires a normal range of joint function and strength to be able to complete a full rotation. Unicam’s cleverly designed pedal system comprises of a crank arm with a series of nine locations to which a special pedal is attached. The Retroflex can accommodate a cycling action with NO knee movement, where flex in the ankle is sufficient to cycle. The system can accommodate knee bend ranges of as little as 10 degrees and is incrementally adjustable.
