Let’s talk about Chronic Kidney Disease.
Chronic Kidney Disease, commonly referred to as CKD, is a condition where the kidneys do not work as well as they should. It can affect anyone but is more common in people of black or south Asian origin.
In its early stages, CKD does not usually present symptoms and may only be diagnosed if you have a blood or urine test for another reason. If you do receive a diagnosis of CKD, the important thing is not to panic. Many people with the condition continue to live long lives, and there are plenty of treatment options available, including simple lifestyle changes, medication, dialysis and in more severe advanced stages, a kidney transplant.
CKD only progresses to kidney failure in around 2 in 100 people with the condition, but if you are concerned about symptoms such as tiredness, swollen feet, shortness of breath, nausea and noticing blood in your urine, please get in touch to speak to a doctor.
