That’s me, folks - I’m officially on maternity leave! 🤍

Hopefully we won’t have long to wait before baby Murray-Evans arrives, and we’ll be sure to share the news when he/she makes their appearance.

I’ve truly loved working throughout my pregnancy and feel so touched by the kindness and support from all of our wonderful clients. It really does make what we do so rewarding. It’s such a privilege to treat you and get to know so many lovely people 🥰

The plan is to return in the autumn, all being well. In the meantime, Charlie will still be available for bookings and holding the fort until I’m back - and then we’ll master the art of tag-teaming 🙌

I’m so looking forward to seeing you all again, and even more excited to share the next phase of the business with you soon…

Yesterday, Heather and Claudia travelled to Glasgow to complete their specialist training in Pregnancy Massage. This marks Heather’s final course before commencing her maternity leave next year.

It was a fantastic day -a wonderful opportunity for enhancing skills- and we’re very excited to bring this wonderfully soothing treatment for mums-to-be in the New Year. It’s an absolute delight, and we know you’ll love it as much as they did!

We’re delighted to welcome our new Sports Massage Therapist, Claudia Forbes-Walker, to the clinic!

Claudia joins us with a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise from Stirling University and holds an extended diploma in Sports Massage Therapy with two years of hands-on experience. She is currently furthering her training to become a Sports Therapist and developing a growing passion for incorporating holistic approaches into her treatments.

Outside of the clinic, Claudia is an avid mountain biker. She loves the freedom of exploring new trails, and has a particular passion for downhill riding and Enduro racing (comeback pending!). Her enthusiasm for the sport led her to complete a HND at Borders College with BASE Mountain Biking, and she is also a qualified mountain bike coach. She’s committed to helping riders build confidence, develop their skills, and encouraging more women to get involved in the sport.

Claudia’s love for massage therapy has grown from her own experience of how sports massage can improve wellbeing, support recovery, and help people stay active in the activities they enjoy -without being held back by injury.

Claudia will be starting with us on Thursday the 4th December and we’re excited for you to meet her. Appointment availability is open now, so keep an eye out if you would like to book in with her. We’re thrilled to have her on board and know our clients will benefit greatly from her knowledge, energy, and passion for helping others move and feel better.

We have some very exciting news to share - we’re expecting a baby!

It’s such a special time for us, and we wanted to let our lovely clients and community know what to expect over the coming months. Heather’s availability will be a little more limited as we prepare for this new chapter, and appointments are already booking up into mid-December. If you’d like to see her before she takes maternity leave, we highly recommend booking ahead to secure your preferred times.

Heather plans to begin maternity leave at the end of February, and she’s looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible before then. Thank you all for your continued support, kindness, and understanding - it truly means the world to us.

And that’s not the only exciting update… we also have a new therapist joining Tweed Valley Massage very soon! We can’t wait to introduce them. More details to come!

Did you know that deep tissue massage can help reduce headaches?

Tension headaches often stem from chronically tight muscles in the upper back, shoulders and neck.

What causes this? You know the usual culprits:

- Extended periods of time hunched over a computer

- Driving long distances

- Spending hours on your bike negotiating trails or churning out the miles on a road bike.

Even activities like decorating and breast-feeding can cause tension spots in your upper trapezius that can refer pain into your head and temples.

Stress and anxiety can also amplify the occurrence of headaches. An overactive sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight mode) causes us to hunch our shoulders and subconsciously tense our muscles when we feel under pressure.

How can deep tissue massage help?

By using slow, sustained pressure; deep tissue massage can pe*****te the deeper layers of muscle, easing knots and reducing the “pull” on the scalp that can trigger headaches.

It can also stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest mode), which means it lowers stress hormones and promotes relaxation, naturally helping to lower your shoulders and reduce the ache.

It can also improve blood flow and oxygen delivery. Muscle tightness can restrict blood supply to the head and neck. Massage promotes better circulation, which helps bring oxygen and nutrients to the area while flushing away metabolic waste.

Yesterday I spent the day in Glasgow doing my Level 2 Thai Yoga Massage practitioner training— it was a truly inspiring day with a great group of ladies! I left buzzing with ideas, new techniques, and a real sense of excitement about bringing this incredible practice to life.

Thai Yoga Massage is often called “lazy man’s yoga,” as it combines deep pressure with assisted stretches for a full-body treatment that leaves you feeling like your body’s been realigned from head to toe.

There’s a lot to absorb, so I’ll be taking a few weeks to practice what I’ve learned before offering it as a treatment to my clients.
