Here Poppy is performing a rehab drill using the reaction lights which encourages her to maintain a good squat position whilst changing direction. Poppy plays hockey and this drill is designed to in some way recreate the chaos of sport, getting her body and brain to work together. The band encourages her to use her gluts (bum muscles) which helps to keep her knees out rather than letting her knees fall inwards. The lights are there to provide another stimulus that she has react to, just like she would have to on the hockey field. When carrying out return to sport rehab it isn't enough to improve the squat position in isolation we have to train the brain as well as the body. Try this at home with coloured markers or objects on the floor - family members can shout the colours or objects that you have to move towards. Can you keep your knees out and maintain a good squat position? Can move quickly and react?
