The home’s founder, Isobel Fraser, was a mother of seven and a woman known for her great humanity, imagination and keen awareness of the needs of others.
Following the death of her husband, Frederick, a tailor in Inverness, she continued to pursue her goal of establishing a home to help infirm or needy elderly people.
This was achieved in 1899 in a cottage in Crown Street, Inverness. Isobel died in 1918, aged 65, and, following her death, the home was named The Isobel Fraser Cottage Home.
In 1938 a purpose-built facility was built in Mayfield Road, where the home has remained ever since.
