Highland Editorial Services We are an editing & proofreading company focused on bringing a polished and professional appearance

From my earliest memories, books and words have always been my dearest friends. Perfectly crafted sentences, a well-turned phrase, the images brought to life of times gone by or future worlds yet to be – all of these brought me endless delight and contentment. This carried through to university, where I studied English Literature and Theatre, completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in each subject while graduating at the top of my class. I went on to train in the trade of editorial field in the children’s publishing industry. Becoming a part of the world of making children’s books was a dream come true and I cherish those days and the many books that were put on the shelves as a part of my endeavours. After marrying and moving to Scotland, I moved into another type of editorial work in the medical devices world, operating in a highly regulated environment, ensuring the high quality standards of regulatory requirements and customer care as well as excellent grammar were being met. I am delighted to now bring my breadth of experience to the individuals, local businesses and students of the Highlands.

Once there were people who wanted to openly decry the way life was changing. They didn’t like having to worry about the feelings or safety of others. They were afraid when people who looked different to them moved into their neighborhoods. They hated others who didn’t speak the same language or worship the same god because those differences made them uncomfortable. [ 892 more words ]

And the people rejoiced. They deified this man because he was a miracle to them for telling them they were right and good for feeling hate for the others. They felt lighter and happier than they ha…

I am not doing well. My mental health is worse than its been in a long time. A long time. The cost of being informed, to being a responsible citizen and human being, has been my sense of safety and peace and any ability to sleep. Everything looks bleak at best and terrifying at worst. I am SO. TIRED. of the lack of humanity & justice & dignity. [ 504 more words ]

Hello! Now that it has been confirmed that we will be returning to school full-time in August, I’m starting to schedule tutoring sessions for Term 1 & 2 of the 2020-21 school year. With school starting back on Aug 12th, my plan right now is to return to in-person sessions the week of Aug 24th.

Knowing that everyone will be cautious about the spaces to which they are sending their children, I’ve made modifications to my instruction space to minimise risk as much as possible: a hand sanitizer station has been set up at the front door; group sessions are limited to two pupils; and appropriate distancing will be implemented & maintained at all times. I’m also going to be disinfecting all contact surfaces & areas between every session for maximum protection. Face masks are welcome. I will be wearing a plastic visor so that kids can hear and see me without obstruction.

Additionally, I will continue to maintain the online Google Classrooms for each group (including one-to-one sessions). These classrooms will provide continuity for pupils who need to miss sessions due to self-isolation and can operate as a back-up in case schools return to blended learning models.

I'm looking forward to welcoming back my former pupils and meeting new ones as we begin this foray into a new world of learning - with safety always at the forefront of our minds. I hope to see you there when we start back in August. Get in touch today to secure a spot. :-)

With school (hopefully!) returning full-time in August, I am looking forward to getting back together with my students to analyse great stories and discuss wonderful words. This may need to be done virtually via Google Meets or, if we’re very lucky, we might be able to meet in person with appropriate distancing measures in place.

However we do it, I will be here to support my students to meet their goals. I look forward to seeing you then!

My latest piece of writing.

When my husband and I decided to raise our kids in his hometown in Scotland, I knew there were things my kids would go without: Celebrating birthdays at Chuck E. Cheese. Enjoying soft serve ice cream at my favorite drive-in restaurant. Growing up with their U.S. cousins. That they would miss these.....

Until the age of 6 years old, my eldest son lived and breathed letters, words, and reading. He loved all things language. Hyper-verbal, he began speaking at the age of 15 months; he was reading Dr. Seuss books independently by 2 years old. He watched videos and TV shows in Gaelic and in Spanish, and could confidently speak bits of both. [ 649 more words ]

Following Nicola Sturgeon's latest briefing today, I feel I must stop face-to-face sessions for the time being and move solely to online instruction.

I know this isn't ideal, but there is still much that can be done via video conferencing: strengthening reading comprehension; vocabulary/spelling work; grammar instruction; and focus on expression/writing skills. These are all easy to target and enhance through online work.

My online tutoring sessions will be carried out via Google Hangouts and Google Classrooms, and I will provide instruction packs, with worksheets, etc, delivered to your door for you. I can also provide webcams for use with laptops/computers if you don't have any devices with the necessary equipment at home,

Isolation doesn't have to be isolating. Adapting to our circumstances is a truly unique human skill. Let's use the technology available to us as a bridge, to keep us together and working towards something positive. We can make this work and come out stronger on the other side.:-)

During this challenging, unsettling time, please know - I am still here to support your children in their learning, in person or online.

My home is symptom-free. While it remains so, I will keep tutoring in person. For those who are self-isolating, I will tutor online, via Google Classrooms or whatever method suits you.

If the schools close or if you are planning to remove your children from school, I can support you in home educating in English (reading/writing/comprehension). Again, that can be in person for those who are symptom-free or online for those who wish to social distance.

I have experience with additional support needs, especially in autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. For any students who are struggling at school, I can be an extra support to help them teach their potential.

With the gift of technology, even in the face of social distancing, we can stay connected. And while much is up in the air, one thing remains constant - we can manage any situation if we support each other.
