UK Babies, in the words of King Charles III "mourns profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved mother." who dedicated her life not only to the United Kingdom and Commonwealth but was also a ground-breaking advocate for the rights of pregnant people to make fully informed birth choices.

Prince Charles was born via Caesarean Section in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace in November 1948 - at this point only 3% of births were performed via Caesarean.
The Queen went on to have 3 VBACs - Vaginal Births after Caesarean which is unusual today and all were home births (which in the current climate the NHS would advice against) - maternity services had been moved to the newly formed NHS in July 1948 so the fact that she chose the have home births (which no other royal has done since) especially after the complications surrounding Prince Charles's birth was incredibly courageous. Princess Anne was born in 1950 at Clarence House and Prince Andrew was born in 1960 in the Belgian suite of Buckingham Palace when the Queen had become monarch following the death of her father King George VI in 1952 and Prince Edward was born in 1964 again at Buckingham Palace. The Queen was attended by the same midwife Helen Rowe for the birth of all four of her children.

Elizabeth II should be considered a pioneer in the world of birth as for her first three births she was given drugs to induce "twilight sleep" which was the norm at the time and babies were generally delivered via forceps with the mother unconscious. The Queen refused this analgesia for the birth of Prince Edward against the advice of her obstetrician John Brudenell and further challenged the social norm by insisting that Prince Philip was present for the birth of Prince Edward which was highly unusual at the time. Ironically, John Brudenenell went on to advocate that all births should take place in a hospital rather than supporting homebirth.

Elizabeth the II was a hands-on mother with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, whilst juggling the demands of being monarch of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries.

UK Babies salutes her unwavering devotion to her selfless service to our nation. 🕊🇬🇧

So why come to UK Babies? What do you get with us that you don’t get anywhere else?⠀

💥It’s not just half an hour of singing songs then you all go home. We give you personal support and we stay with you from pregnancy through to preschool (if you want us to!) We get to know you, we care about you and your baby. ⠀

💥We don’t lump all the ages of baby into the same class. We have five different classes that are perfectly designed for your baby’s stage of development. Each class takes into account the baby or toddler’s needs at that age, so they don’t get overstimulated or have too much expected of them. You don’t want toddlers trampling over newborns, what you want is to meet other parents going through the same things you are, whether it’s sleepless nights, weaning, or choosing a school. ⠀

💥As an NHS partner, we are quietly revolutionising antenatal and postnatal support and education. Our model free us from reliance on funding so we cannot be subjected to budget cuts like what is happening to the NHS and Children’s Centres. We are here for the long term, and with your support – by booking onto our classes – we can continue to provide this service for many years to come. Visit our website, link in bio 💖

YOUR SELF-CARE IS IMPORTANT

As parents, much of our daily lives are spent doing things for or worrying about our children. This is both physically and emotionally demanding and can have negative impacts on our physical and mental health.

In today’s very busy world it can be hard to find time to give to ourselves, but it is so very important.

We often talk about self-soothing in the context of our babies (which is a myth but that’s a whole different post) but what about if we thought of the term in a different way, applying it to ourselves…

How about we consider ways in which we can self-sooth to help get rid of any negative emotions we might be holding onto, which will enable us to find balance and be a happier person and therefore a happier parent.

Maybe pick some of these self-soothing ideas and give them a go, even just a few minutes a day will bring some positive vibes back to your tired body and brain.

Give it a go, you are important too!
