As another day, week, month, year draws to an end I thought I’d pop my head round the door to leave some warm words for you all, courtesy of one of my favourite poets, Donna Ashworth. And to everyone I’ve worked with this year, it’s been an honour to build those castles with you, and to sit with you within their hard-built, beautiful walls…

On the stroke of midnight tonight,
you can resolve to be better, if you like…
to be fitter,
to eat cleaner,
to work harder.

On the stroke of midnight tonight,
you can resolve to become a whole new you,
if you so choose.

Or, you can take a moment to acknowledge
what you already are.
Because it’s a lot.
You are a lot.

And you deserve to be truly seen.

On the stroke of midnight tonight,
perhaps you could congratulate yourself for coping.
For breaking, again,
for rebuilding, again.

For catching the stones life has thrown at you,
and using them to build your castle
that little bit more beautifully.

And if you have used those stones to block yourself in for the ‘heal’, perhaps you can realign them this year. Make a grander gate, not a higher wall.

You have endured, my friend.
Through times you thought unendurable.
You did.

And I don’t see the need to resolve
to become a whole new you,
when you are already so very much indeed.

Happy new year.

You made it.

Now let us face another 365 day-turn together,
arms wide…
accepting, embracing and ‘seeing’ one other,
for all we truly are…

breaks and all.

How powerful it can be to be met exactly where we are, with no pressure or expectation to be different. We can find this in the therapy room, in the space held for us there.

If ever I hear myself saying ‘and how does that make you feel….’ It makes me feel like a stereotype!

💎If you need support, don't be afraid to ask for help…

Please, do not abandon
that old feeling of abandonment
when it comes to visit.
Vow to never leave it again.

And your unworthiness
is not unworthy,
but a worthy, intelligent expression
of the whole.

And your doubts are undoubtedly sacred.
And your uncertainty
is certainly shimmering
with life.

And if you can find
a feeling of lostness,
you can hold it close,
breathe into its delicate heart.

And you can be the home
for the world's homesickness.

No feeling is a mistake,
and feelings only come to you for love,
for an embrace as vast
as the entire Universe.

- Jeff Foster

“Family and friends can often face things like stress, abuse, isolation, mental health difficulties and financial strain, says Vivienne Evans, chief executive of Adfam, a national charity tackling the effects of drugs and alcohol an addict's wider circle.
She adds that, too often, attention and support is given to those with the drug or alcohol problem while the needs of family members, "the ones bearing the brunt of it all, are forgotten. Many families suffer in silence"

Matt says the impact on loved ones is a "forgotten piece of the puzzle" when it comes to addiction.

Valentine's Day is not simply a day for those in blissfully happy relationships. It's a day for those of us remembering former Valentines and departed Valentines.

It's a day for those of us still looking for Valentines and for those of us who don't want a Valentine.

It's a day to celebrate the people who love us in all different kinds of ways. And most importantly, it's a day for us to show ourselves the love we deserve.
