The "Sit-to-Stand" Secret

One of the most important exercises for maintaining independence isn't done on a treadmillβ€”it’s done in your favorite chair!.

The Tip:

When rising from a seated position, try to do it without using your arms to push off. This builds "functional strength" in your quads and glutes, which are the muscles that keep you steady on your feet and help prevent falls.
How to do it safely:

1. Scoot your bottom to the edge of the chair.
2. Tuck your feet slightly back.
3. Lean your nose over your toes.
4. Power through your legs to stand up!

Why it works:

It turns an everyday movement into a mini-workout that strengthens your "base," making you much more stable when walking.
