๐ŸŽ„ Why so many of us wake up in January feeling heavy (not just physicallyโ€ฆ)

December becomes a guessing game with our gut: rushed coffees โ˜•, random snacks ๐Ÿซ, late dinners ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ, skipped meals, too much wine ๐Ÿท, not enough water ๐Ÿ’ง, not enough rest ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ. Even when you โ€œate nothing,โ€ stress, dehydration and disrupted digestion can still leave your stomach feeling swollen and uncomfortable.

But it doesnโ€™t have to be that way.
Here are 5 simple moves to end the bloating cycle โ€” and walk into January feeling lighter, calmer and more in control โœจ:

1. Chew your food properly. Digestion begins in your mouth. Chewing slowly helps your gut work better and reduce gas and bloating. ๐Ÿ™‚

2. Start your day with water โ€” before coffee. This helps hydrate your gut and supports smoother digestion. ๐Ÿ’ง

3. Have protein at breakfast. A toast-and-coffee start often spikes blood sugar and stresses digestion. Protein helps stabilise things early on. ๐Ÿณ

4. Pause and breathe before eating. A few calm, deep breaths shifts your body into โ€œrest and digestโ€ mode instead of stress mode. Less tension = better digestion. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ

5. If bloating is constant โ€” consider getting tested for food intolerances. Sometimes itโ€™s not about โ€œeating healthyโ€ โ€” itโ€™s about eating what your body tolerates. ๐Ÿงช

๐Ÿ† Homegrown Aubergine Stew โ€“ A Taste of Comfort & Goodness ๐ŸŒฟ

Today, I made a lovely stew using my homegrown aubergine! ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿฅ• Ingredients:
โ€ข 1 small homegrown aubergine, sliced
โ€ข ยผ courgette, sliced
โ€ข ยฝ yellow pepper, ยฝ green pepper, ยฝ red pepper (all chopped)
โ€ข 1 scotch bonnet pepper, finely chopped (optional for heat)
โ€ข 1 onion, chopped
โ€ข 2 cloves garlic, chopped
โ€ข 1 small portion yam, peeled and cut into chunks
โ€ข 1 small potato, peeled and cut
โ€ข 1 tin mackerel in olive oil
โ€ข 1 cup chopped butternut squash
โ€ข 1 tbsp Patakโ€™s Madras spicy sauce
โ€ข ยฝ tsp black pepper
โ€ข ยฝ tsp garlic salt
โ€ข A drizzle of olive oil (if needed)

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿณ Hereโ€™s how I made it:

1. Boil the yam and potato until tender.

2. In another pot, heat the mackerel with its oil, add onion and garlic, and cook until fragrant.

3. Add the aubergine, courgette, and mixed peppers โ€” let them soften and soak up the flavours.

4. Stir in the scotch bonnet, black pepper, and garlic salt.

5. Add the butternut squash and Patakโ€™s Madras sauce, then cover and let everything simmer into a rich, hearty stew.

6. Serve warm with the yam and potato on the side.

โœจ Absolutely delicious โ€“ so good I went back for a second helping! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Roasted Veggie & Chickpea Bowls with Maple Dijon Tahini Dressing

Ingredients:

For the Bowls:

1 large sweet potato, peeled and diced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 zucchini, chopped
1 red onion, sliced
1 cup cherry tomatoes
1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
