Welcome Charlie ๐
Charlie qualified as a Physiotherapist (with honours) from Keele University in 2000.
She specialised in Paediatrics in 2002, and since then has honed her skills working with children and young people with a large variety of problems inclusive of respiratory, neurological, orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions, and spending more than 15 years as part of the MDT treating children with cancer locally within her NHS work.
Since 2019, she has been one of a small number of physiotherapists within Suffolk whoโs achieved a position as an โextended scopeโ practitioner (working beyond the physiotherapistโs normal scope) in Childrenโs Orthopaedics. For example, this may involve requesting investigations such as X-rays, MRI scans and blood tests, and using the results to assist clinical diagnosis and management/treatment options.
Charlieโs NHS work means that she has built strong relationships with GPs and Consultants in the local area. She believes this is invaluable when dealing with patients with more complex conditions who need input from different healthcare teams.
Within her current NHS role, she is currently launching a physiotherapy-led triage service for young people with suspected scoliosis, as well as leading the physiotherapy aspects of the local CTEV and DDH services. She is on the committee of the recently launched UK Clubfoot Network. Furthermore, her work as a clinical specialist involves a teaching and educational role for physiotherapists and medical staff within the NHS setting.
Charlieโs vast experience and clinical expertise allows her to diagnose and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions in children, and she is an expert in the effects of growth on the musculoskeletal system.
Away from work, Charlie is a busy mum of 3, and is an integral part of the junior cricket set-up at East Bergholt Cricket Club. She has a brown belt in kickboxing, and has previously played tennis and netball at club level. Since an injury in 2022, Charlie has been swimming and using the gym regularly.
