Heartstart Ayrshire & Arran Providing Free Emergency Life Support Training Every year in Scotland around 3000 people suffer from an out of hospital cardiac arrest and only 1 in 10 survive.

One of the reasons for this low survival rate is not enough people know emergency lifesaving skills. Heartstart offer free Emergency Life Support training to members of the public throughout Ayrshire. By taking the time to learn these simple skills you could save a life one day. Onsite training can be delivered to groups of 8 or more. Community classes are available for individual bookings or smaller groups.

Heartstart is delivering free Emergency Life Support Training in Bonnyton Community Centre, Kilmarnock on Thursday 29th January. These sessions are designed to equip members of the public with essential life saving skills.
We use a clear, straightforward approach that builds confidence and shows that anyone can save a life.

Do you know the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest?
They’re often confused but recognising the signs could help you act fast and potentially ❤️🙌

🔹 Heart attack: Blood flow to part of the heart is blocked. The person is usually awake, may have chest pain, and needs urgent medical help but their heart is still beating.
🔹 Cardiac arrest: The heart suddenly stops beating. The person collapses, stops breathing normally, and becomes unresponsive. This is life-threatening and needs immediate CPR and defibrillation.

Knowing what you’re seeing and how to respond can make all the difference. Early action saves lives.

When someone nearby has a cardiac arrest, every second counts. The Goodsam app, used by the Scottish Ambulance Service , alerts volunteers to start CPR or use a defibrillator before emergency crews arrive.
