Last of the heavy gear coming back from Waternish point. It's been a terrible year for lobsters. We had low pressure after low pressure from June through August. Stopped us getting to the gear and the bad weather kept the lobsters deep. Never mind..... they will be bigger next year 🙈

It took a while to persuade this brute of a C**k Crab to come out of the Creel. He and some his friends went straight to the when we got in. Also nice to see alot of Juvenile Lobsters through the gear.

Out with my eldest son Somhairle the other night. We are seeing a lot of Juvenile Lobsters coming up which is great to see. We see a massive number of Lobsters at this time of year. This is due to them casting their shells and when shellfish cast they are left very soft and therefore vulnerable to predators. The Lobsters come into the food rich shallows to feed and get their shells hard again.

A couple of beauties today. L-R 1.5kg and 1.2kg. The furthest right is a restaurant sized lobster that comes in at 600g. They really are amazing creatures.

It's been thick fog at sea level since 0500. Sun is starting to come through now. Even though I have an electronic chart I still get disoriented without having landmarks.

Assisted with the recovery of the crew from the Yacht "Freedom" on Wednesday. They struck Sgeir a'Chuain (reef North of Isay Island) around Midday. Transferred to another fishing boat "My Amber" then onto RNLI "Stanley". Towards High tide she was towed to Dunvegan and then pumped out by the Fire Brigade. Well done all involved.

Spur dog that came up in the crab gear this morning. Bloodied but returned to the water. I believe only a couple of boats on the West Coast are permitted to fish for these due to low stock numbers. Check out those barbs.
