It was such a wonderful day at Steeton Court yesterday!

We started off with a very busy morning in the Cavendish conservatory for our weekly exercise and dance class. The brilliant Oona was back to teach us some new moves, and it was fantastic to see everyone getting involved and staying active. 💃✨

We were also delighted to be joined this week by our little friends from Audrey Wynns childminding. As always, their visits bring so much joy to the home and seeing those happy little faces truly made our morning extra special. 💓😊

As the sun came out, we headed outside for a fun afternoon of ‘Guess the Word’. It turned out to be quite the brain-workout with some very tough categories including cathedral cities, nature, and even skiing! There were definitely some real mind-teasers in there, but the afternoon was made perfect by the good conversation, delicious coffee, and even better company. 🌞☕️✨

It’s been an action-packed few days at Steeton Court Nursing Home! 🌟

Monday Magic & Quizzing Fun 🎤

We kicked off the week with balloon tennis, parachute play, and a "selfie lesson" for one of our residents! We also welcomed Ada, a T-level student from Bradford College, before the legendary Steve Starkie joined us for a brilliant afternoon quiz. It was lovely to have our friends from Craven Nursing Home join the fun too! ✨

Chasing the Steam Trains 🚂

Yesterday was all about the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. We visited Oakworth, Haworth, and Oxenhope stations to see the steam engines and enjoy tea and biscuits under beautiful blue skies. We even squeezed in a trip on the Spellman Express to soak up the stunning local views near Cowling. ⛰️☀️

Creative Hands & Gentle Afternoons 🌿

We’ve started a lovely project making handmade lavender seed paper from recycled materials—we can't wait to plant our paper hearts and watch them grow! Today has been much more relaxed, with a morning of poetry and a "sun-chasing" afternoon in the salon and garden with plenty of ice cream. 🍦🌷

Spellman Care warmly invites our current and former community to join us across the weekend as we remember and honour those lost during the pandemic. 🕯️❤️

For the official COVID-19 day of reflection, we are holding our reflections over the whole weekend to ensure everyone in our community has the opportunity to take a moment for themselves and their loved one. We welcome residents, staff, and both current and past relatives to add a heartfelt message or a loved one's name to our memorial window. 🕊️✨

We know this remains a difficult time for many, so we have placed these memorials on the front doors of our homes on both sides of the glass. At each home, you will find a tub of hearts and pens placed right by the windows. Please feel free to take a heart, write your own personal message, and stick it directly to the glass as part of our memorial wall. This allows you to participate and share a moment of reflection in a way that feels most comfortable for you, without the need to come inside if you would prefer not to. ❤️

We are incredibly proud to announce that following a recent inspection, our home achieved a phenomenal Infection Control score of 99.78% ✨

This outstanding result is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our wonderful Housekeeping Team. Their commitment ensures that our home remains consistently clean, safe, and tidy for all our residents. Well done to everyone involved for such a brilliant achievement! 🧼 🫧

What a wonderful few days we’ve had at Steeton Court Nursing Home!

We kicked off our Friday morning in Harewood with plenty of smiles and healthy competition using the ‘tiny’ tablet. From darts and bowling to tricky trivia, there were some real brain teasers to get stuck into, and it was lovely to see our residents' families joining in the fun too 🥰

The excitement continued with a melodic twist on bingo! We spent the afternoon remembering well-known tunes of the past, from wartime classics like 'White Cliffs of Dover' to moving hymns like 'Amazing Grace'. Our residents shared how much they adore music bingo for the happy memories it brings back 🎵

Our Saturday morning was just as lively in the Cavendish conservatory, with our residents' minds working hard during a secret word game hosted by our wonderful Duke of Edinburgh student, Eliza 🧠

To top off a brilliant weekend, we took our armchairs and 'travelled' to the vibrant Philippines! 🇵🇭 It was a fully immersive afternoon featuring trivia and a special quiz prepared by our DofE student, Millie. We explored the local culture and languages, but the real stars of the show were the beautiful Ube cakes kindly delivered by our nurse, Tina 💜

The soft texture and coconut aromas made for a truly memorable treat. It was a jam-packed weekend of learning, laughter, and delicious food—the perfect way to travel the world without ever leaving the room! 🌏✨

We had a truly wonderful day yesterday at Steeton Court, and the energy in the home was absolutely fantastic! 🌟

Oona’s exercise class was buzzing with a full lounge, and she certainly put us all through our paces. It was heart-warming to see so many of our newer residents joining in, smiling, and chatting as they got stuck into the session. The atmosphere was incredibly positive, and it was the perfect way to start the day together 💪✨

After the class, we had the pleasure of welcoming another new resident, Mr G, who arrived with his Activity Coordinator for a handover. It was lovely to spend some time getting to know him, hearing all about his hobbies, his family, and the things he enjoys most. We are so looking forward to helping him settle in and getting him involved in our home life 💛

Our local little ones unfortunately couldn't make it to visit us yesterday as it was pouring with rain—they quite rightly decided to stay tucked up and warm inside! ☔🏠

To keep our brains busy, our trivia masters took on some brand-new challenges. We mixed things up with a round of “What’s that Sound?”, which proved surprisingly tricky. From the sizzle of a frying pan to the sound of a fizzy drink being poured over ice, there were plenty of laughs and "of course!" moments once the answers were revealed 🔊🤔

We also tackled a "Real or Fake?" news quiz, which sparked some brilliant debates across the room! We finished off with our trusty general knowledge favourites, and it is safe to say our two new residents are going to be very worthy competitors. The bar has definitely been raised for our next quiz night 🏆🙌

Spring Sunshine and Special Stories at Steeton Court 🌼✨

We have had a wonderful few days at Steeton Court Nursing Home! Our recent trip to Booths in Ilkley was a real highlight, with plenty of smiles on the bus and a lovely treat in the café 🚍☕

Back at home, our wonderful volunteer Christine pampered residents with facials and hand treatments. To show our gratitude for her kindness, we surprised her with flowers and chocolates. Kindness truly costs nothing! 💐🍫

On Harewood, we’ve been bringing the outdoors in by creating our own beautiful spring bouquets. There was so much creativity and pride as we worked together to brighten up the home. Our newer residents also enjoyed a trip to the Cow & Calf, where the sun came out just in time to spot the very first daffodils of the season! ☀️🙌

We are also incredibly proud of our new photography initiative, "A Life in Their Hands" 📸🤍 These sessions capture the unique history and hobbies of our residents through their hands, telling a story of the lives they have lived. Keep an eye out for more as we continue to develop this!

A Day of Discovery and Music at Steeton Court ❄️

The first snowdrops of the year appeared in our garden yesterday, bringing a lovely sign of spring to Steeton Court. 🌼

It was also a momentous day as we launched our brand-new initiative, "This Is Your Life." We began with the incredible Mrs L, who sat with us to share her journey. It was a deeply emotive session filled with both tears and happiness as we uncovered memories ranging from childhood nicknames to treasured family history. 📖✨

We were all captivated by her stories, especially hearing how she visited Disneyland Florida a whopping 18 times! Her very first trip was actually won through a raffle, which sparked so much wonderful conversation. Mrs L also spoke fondly of meeting Hannah Hauxwell, describing the famous Yorkshire farmer as a modest and humble lady. ❤️

To sit and truly listen to these journeys is such a privilege, and we look forward to working behind the scenes with more families to help preserve these vital life stories. 💛

The fun didn’t stop there, even when our scheduled singer had to cancel at the last minute. At Steeton Court, we love to improvise, so out came the musical bingo! 🎵 It turned into a truly fabulous afternoon, with some residents mentioning they enjoyed it even more than a live performer. We discovered a few secret choir singers among our group who loved leading the way with the songs. It just goes to show that at Steeton Court, we always find a reason to sing! 🎶🌟
