You may not believe that the phases of the moon can have any affect on you, but before you dismiss this thought entirely, just take a moment to consider that the gravitational pull of the moon causes the oceans and seas to rise and fall.
This full moon is known as a Wolf Moon. Up until the 16th century wolves roamed Britain although eventually hunted to extinction.
Wolves communicate through howling, and work together as a pack to survive. January is a month of scarcity, darkness and often extreme cold, survival relied on communication, support and sharing, thus it seemed to the ancient Britons that the wolves howled louder and more often and the sound of their howling instilled fear and served as a reminder of their own scarcity, their need for support and sharing. It brought home their vulnerability and a longing for the dark to end and the sun to return.
We don't hear the wolves anymore, but we do feel the fear and the lack. In our modern society the community group are no longer in the next dwelling, they no longer share their fire or their food, we sit alone in the dark surrounded by our fear and anxiety, unable to communicate our desperate need for warmth and love and belonging.
