Family relationships often come with high expectations for love and support, but it's important to remember that being related doesn't give anyone the right to treat you poorly. Toxic behaviour, whether it comes from a parent, sibling, or distant cousin, should never be tolerated. Respect and kindness are fundamental in any relationship, and blood ties don't excuse emotional manipulation, disrespect, or abuse.

Setting boundaries is crucial. It can be challenging to distance yourself from family members who are detrimental to your well-being, but prioritising your mental health and self-respect is vital. Open communication can sometimes help address issues, but if toxic behaviour persists, it may be necessary to limit or cut off contact.

Remember, you are not obligated to endure mistreatment for the sake of family loyalty. Surrounding yourself with people who respect and value you, whether they are family by blood or by choice, is essential for a healthy and fulfilling life. Your worth isn't determined by the approval of those who share your DNA but by the love and respect you give and receive in return.

OCD, PMT, PMDD and Periods. Hormonal imbalances can trigger or worsen symptoms of OCD. OCD symptoms in women tend to worsen before and during their periods. The spiral of PMDD and OCD together can be volatile, explosives in your brain, your body. The first step is recognising what is happening and why. Awareness is where we begin. For me, asking why it may be worse one month compared to others. Has there been an increased level of stress over the previous month? Has there been a change in sleep, diet, exercise patterns. Have you already managed to keep your OCD at bay and under control for the last month but now it’s crept in like a giant snake squeezing the life out of your mind? What is the tigger? Sometimes the fluctuation in hormones is the trigger. PMT can be bad enough just on it’s own. A combination of your environment over the last month and your hormones could impact upon your OCD. Then it’s time to put into place the things that help you. This is me this month. The impact of the month behind me has created a build up. But, we recognise it and find the strength to move forwards 💛
